Faulty Towers goes high tech
Bugger me, if I didn't walk into FT tonight ( This AM after Mai Thai and Angels - just to pick up a bag (not the wife) I left there ) to find out the they've gone high-tech, they've discovered broadband and apparently are going wireless, also good connection speed too, about f**king time as they have a P.C. that is free for customers to use, I'm converted as I use the bar in daytime as well as evening so I don't have to pay for my email, just buy a beer instead. I can't believe this as Crustasian is a total compuer neanderthal who thinks cut and paste involves scissors & glue!

Good thing is FT's location makes it a better place to drag a laptop and get a bit of work done.. Couldnt see myself doing that in Rio or MTB but if I needed daily to catch up on some work or comms I could see myself doing that at FT..
Well done Crusty..

Saw the title of this thread and thought someone was taking the p*ss out of me . ,then realise it was about the bar .
Watch the post counts go up when they get broadband and wireless , old Crusty never used to open attachments (they were tooo high tech) , but now when you go in the bar he is "busy" on the computer.
Seems you can teach an old dog new tricks. 5555555555

When the bar is quiet , he now checks his e-mail and then sees if he can contribute any of his "Ancient Wisdom" to the forum.

Whats this rank "Regimental Corporal Major", never even heard of this one before
Similarly, warrant officer appointments are different, with, for example, Regimental Corporal Major being used in place of Regimental Sergeant Major. Uniquely, non-commissioned officers and warrant officers of the Household Cavalry do not wear any insignia on their full dress uniforms (although officers do). Rank is indicated by a system of aiguillettes.

Not sure about this but I think it is a specific rank in the Cavalry (Guards Division) and was originally used by the farrier (blacksmith). I guess the tradition has carried on and the rank is now one of those crazy British things that no one else understands.

http://www.diggerhistory.info/pages-badges/trade2.htm
Aussie site with some ranks badges on there including RCM which is indeed a totally ballsed up rank that only the Household Cavalry could come up with. They won't have the rank Sergeant in any title and would prefer to use the name Corporal instead. Sergeant means servant in either Latin or French (I am guessing!) and because they are all big knobs with houses in Chelsea, Knightsbridge and Kensington won't have owt to do with the minion lower classes and anything Frenchie!
Farrier Corporal Major Tch!!!
Nice one Crustasian, if the attachments won't open just attack the PC with a bayonet or your FS, works every time.

Regimental Corporal Majors (RCM)
Regimental Corporal Majors are perculiar to the Household Cavalry, which forms part of the Guards Division. It dates back to Victorian times and is all to do with Queen Victoria not wanting to confuse Sergeants with Servants. That is why Senior Ranks are Corporal of Horse, Staff Corporal of Horse, Squadron Corporal Major and Regimental Corporal Major. If they are in a Garrison appointment they will then be the Garrison Corporal Major as opposed to the Garrison Sergeant Major. Confused- I was for 22 years!

RE: Faulty Towers Goes Hi-Tech
Although we are now surfing the super highway the speeds are not as they quite should be, although the service is quicker than it was. Hopefully this will be resolved soon and wireless will be available alongside the ADSL- watch this space.

Dont hold your breath waiting for decent internet speeds in Patong. I had a 1024/512 connection and regularly clocked it as less than 256kb.

steve , I think he means a lot quicker than having to walk round the corner to the internet cafe, Crusty has only to walk from his seat to the bar now. And when they get wireless , he won't even have to leave the "Big Table".
