Wouldnt it be alot of fun to set up a Ventrilo server for the forum? For those that doesnt know what ventrilo is, it's a communication software over internet, sound quality is great and all you need to use it is a free software and a headset. A half decent server can easily handle around 100+ people, a requirement for joining it tho should be mic required to keep numbers and bandwidth down.

This is how it works.
You join a lobby just like with any kind of chat, then the admin can set up channels for different sort of discussions, and also password protect channels for private discussions and that sort of things.

This is how it could look for example:

Lobby
General Discussions
Nightlife
Questions
Private 1(Password)
Private 2(Password)
Private 3(Password)

Not a bad idea.. Tieing voice comms in is deffo how things are looking going forward..

Dont know if Thai net connections will be great for that.. Mine chokes with Skype sometimes (switching to Singapores pacific connections soon)..

Ventrilo uses very little Bandwidth, id think you would be fine even with a 256k connection. Oh and my connection chokes with Skype aswell, but the distance is the problem there i think.

Skype uses a system similar to the packet spreading of kazaa so I read.. Distance shouldnt be the big issue but bandwidth most certainly is..

Problem is even though our ADSL is often advertised at 1MBit its very often sub 100kbps or less.. Mine is some days fast some days a crawl.. Hence my desire to avoid the CAT (gov monopoly) system and get the direct to Sing ISP..

The further information has to travel the bigger chances of packetloss, no matter if its on a P2P network or not. However, Ventrilo doesnt work anything like that, the only thing is that with a slow connection towards the server you may get a high response time.

I had a 24/1mbit connection a week ago, but i just downgraded to cut the costs abit. However it doesnt realy matter when most other people outside of Sweden have slower speeds and or speedcaps, on both servers and PC's.
What im trying to say is, Now with 512kbit connection there is no difference as to how it was with my 24mbit connection with Skype.

But was the teminating end of Skype in Thailand.. Hence your bottleneck...

Skype PC to PC in Europe (Holland / UK / Ireland / Iceland) is as good as regular phone quality or better so my partners inform me..

its a voice chat system.. I dont see it as being quite the same..

fun at times when lots of BM's all joined in.. Especially for the ones that already know each other.. Like a big conference call thing but with the lads !!! I reckon it could be a laugh.. Some windups etc..
