Uk Medias Views And Coverage Of Thailand
I surely must not be the only uk Bm that thinks the british medias views and opinions on thailand are total crap, i have spent years censoring the scottish sunday mail and the news of the world for bullshit articles on los before passing the papers onto my dear old mother 55555555. But the recent murder of the british girl on Lamai beach on Kho Samui was the final straw and i have written to several papers and the bbc and itv to ask them to explain why when writing or presenting an article do they always concentrate on the same things . The bars, The Girls, paedophiles, drugs we all know there is far more to los than that, do they not realise that these things exist all over the world not only in los. AFTER the murder in samui we had reports on all tv channels for around 8 days including the obligatory pics of the bars in lamai beach , now i understand how bad this incident was both for the girls family and also for tourism in thailand but 8 days especially as 1 week later we had a british couple murdered in tenerieffe spain and after the 1st day we have heard nothing about it. What i have asked them is why dont they show the other face of thailand why cant they explore issan and see why girls come to Patong,Pattaya and bangkok. Do they need to be so negative in everything they write about Thailand ,because it only leads to the general population (the people who have not been there) having a negative view of the place .

Good points mate, and I ask them very similar questions when it happens too. The conclusion I have come to is that bad news sells papers, or at least sensation does, and the facts often get lost in the rush for a good headline.

The news business is the business of sensationalism.. I have stopped being surprised by it..
I actually have a connection with the gazette and pass gossip on (and sometimes get email asking about gossip he has heard) but one event in the last couple of years I spoke to a stringer for UK rags who distorted and twisted my words and quoted me and used my name (after agreeing that everything was confidential and no name).. Never again will I ever make a comment to a reporter..

For me i am not worried what the newpapers write.
I've given up over the last few years explaining to people why i like thailand and justify what the papers say.
Meeting the people i know in los and the friends i've made in los you do not have to explain to them why we love los, so f..k the ones who never understand or will never go to los in there life. Best to keep them in spain i say.

I thought the first rule of the newspaper business was to never let the facts get in the way of a good story.

Its the same over here in the states. Everyone only talks about two things, the nightlife with the girls and the tsunami. Two most popular questions I get tired of answering: Did you see a girl shoot a pin pong ball out of her p@ssy and phuket is there anything left.... So annoying. Eveytime I go to LOS I try to see something new that will help me appreciate LOS better.

The last thing i want is all the costa rif raf coming to Thailand, they would ruin our secret for sure
Let them keep writing, u can sit back smug in the knowledge at how wrong they are and be thankful, i dont want to imagine what it would be like if mainstream UK tourists came to LOS in their droves

English woman raped in Jomtien.
A case of suspected rape now from Jomtien involving a female English Tourist which is sure to have repercussions as the story is all over the International press. The case begins on Saturday afternoon when a woman who we will not name for her protection aged 29 from Liverpool, England was enjoying herself with friends in the Tepprasit Road where she participated in a game of “Toglor”, a popular sport here in Thailand. She had just completed a modeling assignment here in Thailand and decided not to follow the crew and other models back to the UK and instead decided to spend a further week here in Pattaya. On Saturday evening she had arranged to meet friends in Walking Street and waited for a motorbike taxi in front of the KK Advertising Shop.
A Thai man approached on a bike and claimed he was a motorbike taxi driver and could send her to Walking Street but claimed he wanted to go back to his apartment first to collect a safety helmet for her to wear. He made the planned detour to his apartment in Soi 17 on the Tepprasit Road where he allegedly raped the woman in wasteland at the rear of his room. After the attack, the woman called the Tourist Police who quickly made their way to the location and took her back to Dongtan Police sub-station on Jomtien Beach to make a report of the incident. A full description of the attacker was given and Police began to hunt for him.
On Sunday morning, she accompanied Police to Dongtan Police sub-station where an identity parade was held consisting of five possible suspects. She picked out the arrested individual and suspected rapist named as Khun Pipatpong aged 19 from Nakhon Nayok Province. He confessed to the crime and on Sunday, a reconstruction of the crime took place at the area of wasteland inside Soi 17 which was located just behind the suspect’s apartment. He pointed to the location of the alleged assault and graphically described the attack to officers. The victim is due to return to England on 9th February and we understand that a trial date for the accused has already been set and the case should be concluded before she returns. The suspect faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison without the possibility of an early release if convicted.
With the case involving 21 year old Katherine Horton, from Wales, who was raped and murdered on New Year's Day in Koh Samui, further damage to the reputation of Thailand as a tourist destination is expected because of this second serious criminal case involving a female tourist from the UK in the space of one month.

Thank god I did not see the fat farang woman flashing their breasts or any other part of their body. It would have ruined my appetitie.
