bloody banks !!
hey everyone, just noticed on my ATM card that my card is due to expire at the end of june. i am going to LOS on the 4th of march so i rang the bank and asked to cancel the card and send me a new one with an extended date. so they tell me that i have to ring another dept of the branch and report the card lost or stolen. ok so i just done that and said that i lost my card and they say "no probs, we'll send you a new one but we cant extend the date, when your card is due to expire a new one will be posted out to you a few weeks before, maybe you could get someone to post it to thailand to you"
so do you think it would be safe to get a family member to post my ATM card to thailand or would this be risky, i mean if anything happeded to my card id be stumped.
i dont really want to open another account as all of my direct debits etc are taken from this account
seems my VISA card is due to expire in april, have to ring them now. hope i sont get more of this crap.
customer service my **** 55555 555
what would you people do
Alan

Right.. Open a Thai bank locally get an ATM card (issued on the spot) and transfer money into the account when required (in chunks so as to lower the cost of transfers)..

thai bank
i reckon open a thai bank account eg bangkok bank, ayuttyhaya (spelling oops) transfer your money and as LIL said in chunks to avoid transaction fees.
you will not gain interest on the money, but if it just your holiday and emergencey money that wont matter.
i use my thai bank atm cards at home no problems, no travellers cheques no carrying around lots of money when your on the plane.

I don't understand. You are going to Thailand in March, for how long? You will have no problem with your ATM till end june, and with your VISA till end April. I used my VISA in Thailand till the expiring date and no problems.

Open another account with a different bank in your home country and use the card you get with the account. If you have a NATIONWIDE branch in your part of the world they don't charge transaction fees. It's called a Flexaccount. Fund the account with the money from the account which doesn,t serve your needs. PS Your existing bank can do it if they want to but they dont want to unless you PUSH it.
This solution saves the problem of bringing cash to Thailand to put in a thai bank account.
