What happend with the mall in Patong?
There was a discussion about 6-8 months ago i believe about building a big mall in Patong, kinda like Central Festival. Or did i mix that up somewhere? Any updates on this?

The usual TIT , money problems , so the building is nowhere near finished. When I was there at Christmas they seemed to have stopped all work on the site.

The project is called Jungceylon. Understand there is some kind of dispute between the property owner and the developer. They're short of funds and one party wants to bring more investors in, the other party doesn't want to dilute his share but doesn't want to kick in any more money either. Its going through the courts now ....

It was an historical (colonial) name for Phuket. I'm sure I've got it on one of the old maps I have stashed on my computer somewhere - if I can find it I'll post it up here.

It is the old name for Phuket, Junkceylon givven by Portuguese and Chinese traders. Probably from Malaysian "Ujung Salang".
New name Phuket probably from Malaysian "Bukit".

That's just the modern interpretation .... Glad I'm not one of those who were expecting to have their business open and recouping some of their investment through this high season.

I see, i thought that maybe i had mixed it up with something else. I think that kind of mall in Patong would make a hell of alot of money, a little unfortunate for Central festival tho that would most likely lose ALOT of customers.
