How do you get into Offshore/Oil bussiness?

So ive been reading alot about offshore work now, and ive had a bunch of suggestions from people that this is what i should look for. And i actually think that this could be something for me, i have allways wanned to work on a boat i dunno why, i guess there is something exciting about it, I think it seems to be different from what i have done previously and definitly something i would like to try.

But now here's the question, how do you get into this industry? I've done alot of googling and i cant realy find any sites that seems to be 100% serious. I can only find a bunch of sites that offers close to nothing for a monthly fee.

As have been mentioned before, this kind of job would also support the lifestyle i wanna live.

So if anyone have any experience or, perhaps contacts to share with me i would appreciate it very much.

Its very much a networking thing.. Out here guiys tend to get in on referals and mates get voted in by other mates..

I know 2 guys who last spring went and did a 2 week LST course, add in your heli drop training and first aid then you are ready for work.. Thier forst month on was 180 USD per day.. Now one is getting 250 per day and the other lucked into some gig at 380 per day.. 30 days on 30 days off...

Landing the first job is the hard part but theres lots of work going right now..

How do you get into Offshore/Oil bussiness?

On a Supply boat you work 4 weeks on and 4 weeks off
when you are ombord you work 6 hours on 6 hours off 6 Hours on 6 hours off.

On a rigg in the Norh Sea you work 2 weeks on and 4 weeks off
when you are ombord you work 12 hours on and 12 hours off

A lot off swedish companys have contracts in the oil bussi in the Norh Sea.

Like ABB/Stena/Safe, etc ,etc

How do you get into Offshore/Oil bussiness?

Many people take the safety course on private basis (Ca 25 000 Swedish Kr)
Its a 1 week course and give you the certificate to work offshore.
Its included the boat dropp, helicopter dropp/overturn into water, fire training,
first aid and the theory you need.
Afther that you need a health certificate that shows that you can work offshore.(General god health)

You should be able to get support from employment office to cover the cost
and then search for jobs by contakting the companys or see what kind of extra education you need.

If you get into a apprentice Job the company normally give you that kind of
education as a part of the programme.

Currently my housemate is doing 6 and 2's (6 weeks on 2 weeks off) but he had a lot of time off last year and so is building his money back up.. Most guys on the asian curcuits do 4 and 4 or month on month off..

Yea its a perfect schedule for me. I dont mind hard work at all. Its just that it seems like its a very competative field to actually get a job in, atleast the entry level ones.

in uk you see alot of adverts for offshore work in the papers looking for expierenced and unexpierenced. would help if you have some sort of enginereeing backgorund tho. i do inspection work which pays pretty well and is a piece of piss as Simon will vouch for and the time off is great. i got the job thru my sister who was friends with the boss of a service company. if you dont have a very handy sis try banging on doors. i wouldnt try over the net with no expierence. wouldnt worry about HUET as company will pay for the course if they take you on.

good luck.
