C-Blocked in Bangkok

Due partially to my urging, the bartender at my local pub has just returned from his first trip to LOS. I couldn't wait to hear of his exploits upon his return.

"How did it go?" I asked. He said it was great, but next time he said he'd go solo or be a LOT more careful who he'd travel with.

Turns out, he went with his roomie and one of the roomie's friends. The friend turned out to be a young, good looking guy. Mr. Bartender is nearing 40 and is a big guy - you know the type.

While traveling together, the young cat exhibited appalling behavior in constantly putting my friend down in front of BGs, blatently c-blocking him and even stealing Mr. Bartender's choice of BG at the beer bar (and then not following through with bar fining her). IOW, the guy's sole goal while in LOS was fcuk with Mr. Bartender - which he thought was funny.

If it were me, this little shite would've gotten a pop in the chops. If that didn't get the message across - I'd tell my roomie and his little friend, "SEE Ya!". And go the remainder of the trip solo.

Mr. Bartender agreed, but since this was his first trip to LOS - he just stuck it out.

Too bad for my buddy. The last you thing on your first trip to LOS is a krappy set of wingmen. Hope he tries is again without these idiots.

Wonder where they went in BKK if there was not that many BG´s ?
Sound like your Bartender friend almost had to walk home alone every night or start a fight if he wanted a particular BG!
No need to fight over Bg´s in LOS .. i see a BG in ever female while im there

If it would have happened once then I would have set him aside and have a talk with him. Explain that we are supposed to be wingmen part of the same team. If it continued then see ya buddy nice knowing you , you cnut. Had that happen to me a few times from my best mate! Just talked to him and worked it out. Too bad for you buuddy though. Next time go solo.

cheers,
DD

Pretty Boy

Its seems to me that this Pretty boy was obviously to immature to have one on one conversations with the BG's AND needed Mr Bartender as a target
If I was Mr Bartender I would have gone solo after the first night....plenty of friendly people around to kill time...

I'll put my hand up.........I'm guilty of knocking off a mates bg? (she wasn't exactly a bg, but same same)

Myself & my buddy were in Bali back in 89...A year after we went to LOS.
Both of us were very green & we thought that Bali was gonna be like Phuket, but just on a smaller scale.......SAY NO MORE!!
Anyways it was our last night there & we were staying at Sanur...we went to some shitty disco there & we befriended a waiter & asked him if he knew of any ******s he could arrange for us.
Old mate waiter did some askin around & he got back to us saying he could organise 1 girl only, she was gonna cost big $$ too.
I decided to bow out & left the decision to my buddy....He said go ahead, get her down here.
About 2 hrs later she turns up.
Now I can't remember if she was a great sort or not, it was 17 yrs ago, plus the fact whilst awaiting her arrival, another 8 or so beers had been consumed...Just for my ego,l'll say she was a good sort..
Now my buddy is a laid back kind o guy & I'm the talkative type, so I'm the one doin all the chattin with this girl.....
Anyways, a few more beers consumed & now I'm kickin myself for bowing out earlier.
I told my buddy bout my new intentions & he said..but..but..but..then he said, yeah go on, she's all yours.
Next thing I'm on the back of her scooter & heading back to our Hotel (Hyatt)...security wasn't gonna let her in the grounds, even after I offered him a $20au sling,he wouldn't have a piece of it. So then I find myself goin through some jungle trail on the back of the scooter, in the dark of night, a candle would have been more effective than the light on the bike, I'm gettin branches hittin me on the arms as we go through, not to mention the hundreds of things goin through my head, my main thought was...will this be my last few hrs alive?..will they ever find me?....This should be my mate on the back o this scooter, not me lol..Now I've done some long rides in my time, but this one seemed the longest......all 15 minutes of it!!
We finally stopped at what can only be described as her village. I remember hearing chooks & seein a goat tied up...It reminded me of one o those Vietnam war movies where ya see soldiers come across small villages & then there's a sniper that usually shoots from inside a barn or something like that!!
I was soon sobering up really quickly.
We went to her cabin, which was made with besser blocks, it seemed primitive, But I do recall it having electricity.
I wasted no time once inside getting the deed over & done with...then crashing out.
It would have been 7.00am when I woke & I needed to be back at the hotel for a 9.00am checkout....she said no problems, she'd get me back in time.
When we were leaving, I recall some of the village folk looking at me, in strange ways, I waved to them & they waved back, which eased me somewhat.
Finally I arrive back at the hotel & I ask the girl, how much I owe her..It was x amount of rupiahs...I thought fark, thats like $200au...I think I had the equivalent of $150 on me, after showing her my wallet & what I had, she said...ok, that be fine mr....Ok there ya go *****, take that, see ya later.
After a shower I met my mate down having breakfast, told him the story & he had a good chuckle.
To this day, he still says this to me....you can screw my girlfriend, you can screw my cat, but never steal my renter off me again!
BTW, this is the same mate who I'm comin over with in April.........I'll make it up to him all these years later with a few LT'S

Smile Travel Alone !

Hi there . . .

I am approaching my 7th trip to LOS. (March / April this year). My maxim has always been to travel alone.

I have been to, as a tourist, and on working holidays to almost 40 countries now.

I have never travelled with anyone else, or ever travelled to an itinery of any kind. Even on my trips to Thailand, I have never booked accommodation in advance, or have been committed to being in a certain place, at a certain time.

My last trip in April 2004, started in Bangkok (surprise, surprise!) On arrival at around 11.00pm, I caught the local bus from the Airport to Nana Plaza, and stayed in World Inn, Soi 7, off Sukhumvit, opposite the old Eden Club. This is a place I have stayed before.

It really is a Cesspit, but at that time of the night, after a long flight, and, from memory, after negotiation, I think I paid 550BHT, it was a good option.

Getting back to this thread, I don't care how well you think you may know someone, it is better to meet up with them at a pre-determined location, but not have to travel with them to get there.

Cheers

Pdm3

I also think this bartender guy would have been far better off to go his seperate ways, after all there are plenty of other tourists you can chat and have a laugh with & no reason for your holiday to be ruined by this obnoxious young fellow.

I agree with PDM3, I travel solo too & think it's better this way.

Well, this was his first trip and had quite the bout with culture shock. I think he wasn't resourceful enough to have toughed it out on his own. I can relate to that as I was kind of a basketcase the first few days I was in BKK on my first trip. Also, recall that he was with his roomie as well - a very close friend.

I also used to be skittish about traveling on my own, fearing boredom, etc. Now I'm with you BB. I always go solo. I rather enjoy it that way. Hopefully, my buddy will take the plunge alone or with better sidekicks next time.

Another thing about Mr. Bartender is to sorta keep mum about this LOS trip. The mere mention of "Thailand" around the girls he's chatting with at the bar can raise the ire of the females right quick. The bar has to be pretty empty in order to get any stories out of him.

He actually made it down to Patong. His favorite bar was "U2". He said he could not find MTB, unfortunately.
