FIFA World Cup
I was and am still hoping that my next trip to Phuket is going to be in April. It is however, more than likely going to be in May, or more probably June.
So, as June is going to coinicide with the World Cup finals, and the later evening games are going to be on TV in the very early hours in LOS, my question is what are the chances of being able to enjoy games in the bars in Patong? On my last trip, the times that the bars were allowed to stay open til was rather unpredicatable! Im sure that i will at least be able to watch the games in a hotel room, but would much rather watch them in bars for the atmosphere.
No doubt the non footy (soccer!) fans amongst you will not understand my concerns about this when in LOS! But I really dont want to miss any England games!! Hopefully, the footy fans will sympathise!
PS, Come on England!

The world cup is in germany, the time difference in june, will only be five hours, therefore every game will be shown at good times, not early hours of the morning.
3 oclock ko-8pm
5 oclock ko-10pm
8 oclock ko-1am.

Hi Mav
Been playing golf lately ?. Think i,ll start playin more regular when it warms up a bit here, Im certainly a fair weather player.
Quieter than xmas and new year. This must have its advantages , cheaper flights, hotels, more ladies to go around
Temperature seems to be the same all year round, maybe the humidity and rainfall make it less desirable in low season.
Nice to have met you.

Had a game on Sunday actually Richard....shot a 95...killer was the 7am tee off time...had to get up at 5.30am ....l have rejoined the golfing social club l used to play in......so this is my second game to get a handicap...one more card to be handed in....looks like l will get a handicap around the low 20's.....17 has been my lowest, about 5 years ago now.
Low season in Patong l think is better......prices of hotels lower, and l think more girls to go around. Also the traffic at Xmas was crazy.....did not enjoy that too much. Downside is July to Nov you will probably cop more rain than other times.
Heat does not really worry me too much, as l am kind of usd to it coming from Oz, but l did notice it was quite cooler at Xmas.....seems to get hot under Tiger more than other area's.

Better off IMHO to find bars that are not going to have loud music drowning out the commentary.

Away from the golf and back to the footy! I had worked out that the latest KO time would be 2am In LOS. So those games will finish at 03.45. So looking beyond the published fixtures for the group stage, which of course England will progress from!! As games have the potential to go to extra time and penalties, games kicking off at at 02.00 could potentially still be being played at 04.30am and I think that i will be seriously pissed off if the Boys in Brown were to march in and close down Bangla half way through extra time!
My last trip would suggest that this wont likely be a problem. But on one night on my trip, apparently some big government official was in town and the whole of Bangla was shut down by 3am.
Still the opportunity for cheaper flights, hotels and a better BG/farang ratio are increasingly becoming very tempting factors to compensate missing out on any footy! But being able to enjoy all the England games will be a massive bonus!
That said, I'd still be very interested to know if any of you have been in Patong for previous big international footy tournaments in recent years? For me, the atmosphere when watching these games in pubs/bars increases the enjoyment of these big tournaments.

hope no problems
i hope the MIB are busy following their bets on the games to worry about closing the bars too early.
watched some games from euro 2004, thai places stayed open till the games finished.
resturants also stayed open late for the games, chieng rai seafood is always a good place to watch the football, eat a meal few beers.
looking at the downside i suppose it will be the world cup of hooligans as well, all the best of europes hooligans await after a lay off for japan/korea last time.
no matter how well our little ozzie battlers do, the hooligans will make more news than the good things.
