Smile Patong, Karon or Kata

I'm coming to Phuket in April and not sure where to stay first night being a newbie and all. At the moment thinking of going to Kata first (quieter?) and then Karon and then Patong. Being of a quiet and sensitive disposition does this make any sense or should I just get stuck in straight away in Patong??

It's really up 2 u.

If you are that worried then try the quieter areas and see how you feel, you could always get a tuk tuk to patong at night but it will cost you and plenty of patong bg's may pull a face when you tell them their 'love shack' for the night is all the way over to karon ot epecially kata which is even further away. There are of course ladies available in kata and karon but nothing on the scale of patong.

If you are coming alone to thailand to experience the bg scene then I would suggest you take a deep breath and just go for it. Stay in patong and close to the action.

Things will not seem as nerve racking if you go straight to Mai thai bar the very first night, you will get to meet many bm's from here and Nicke himself who is a great host.

No pressure will be put on you by Nicke's girls so you can relax and soak up the atmosphere and take it all in. After a few nights you will wonder what the fuss was all about and then you will probably become king of the mongers, jungle V.I.P, then full in love, get a broken heart, suffer post lost blues and will be back on this board planning your next trip/become a total addict like the rest of us.

Just enjoy it and relax.

Go to Patong. You can avoid Bangla by staying in your hotel, and then break yourself in gently with short visits to Bangla

I would go straight to Patong. Find some central place where you can walk to soi bangla. I stayed in Karon on my first trip to Thailand, being a little "sceptical" about Patong. Once i got to Patong i felt like home right away and loved the place. I ended up tuk-tuking every day..

Stayed in Kata Noi which is even more far away from Patong! Never again, dont make the tuk-tuk drivers rich.

Patong! Just jump straight in - you'll love it and there's no point wasting time. Karon and Kata both have an active bar scene but Patong is the centre.

Jump in the pool with both feet first -- stay in Patong, you won't regret it (the entire town isn't thriving, so you can find a quieter spot if you desire and still be within walking distance to the action...)
