Khun poot pa-sa Thai dai mai?

If you do then maybe you can answer my query.
The expression "krap" usually pronounced "kup".
I usually know when it's use is appropriate and know it's sometimes polite to add it on at the end of a spoken sentence, but I would like to know it's literal meaning. Can anyone help?

Well, Alibaba!
Don't think it has any more meaning than being a polite ending to a sentence.
It denotes the gender of the person speaking, so a man speaking will always say Krap!and a woman (or Katoey) speaking will say Kah! plahgat

It is nothing more than a 'polite particle' and should always be used in everyday situations when speaking with thai's you don't know.

Like a shop, bank etc..

There are always different spellings in romanised form for all the thai words but the most common I have found in several thai language books is

Krup - male
Ka - female

And yes, some thai's do drop the 'r' in krup.

They often also add small words before the polite particule to make the sense of the sentence sharper (ex: "na krup" to insist or suggest, "la krup" to highligth the interrogation...). "Na" and "la" dont have any literal translation either ;o))

Maybe it's the company I keep but I've never actually heard anyone pronounce the "r" in krap, always just kap.
I must go more upmarket!
