Best beach in Phuket
Been done before, but not for a while I guess?.
My fav place is Kata Noi. Quiet, superb for swimming, and excellent food at a small bar/cafe just behind my beachchair at the far end!! I even enjoy the ride over from Patong, and feel so ready for a night out after the day spent doing nothing but R&R on a wonderful beach......

I don't spend a lot of time on beaches but when I do, it's usually Bang Tao.
Not so good if it's a bit rough as the rips can be excessive.
Plenty of good eateries and not too crowded.
Also, I can sit for hours and watch Ning Nong.

paradise beach-very secluded, ahve to ride motorbike through woods for awhile, but not as special as i imagined

yes, I do like sitting at a beach bar in the late afternoon watching all of the people walking by while drinking a few cold ones. The resort that I stay at in Puerto Galera in the Philippines is right on the beach(not a great beach though) but the owner has 2 nice ladies working there and a lot of the ladies working in the discos walk by there in the early evening on the way to work. And in Boracay every restaurant and bar is near the beach and they usually have chairs and tables set up on the beach all day. Very relaxing. Love to hit the beach bars here in California, wish there were more of them but real estate prices have forced some of them out of business.

in hua hin, you can get a lounge chair and little table for your beer and sit right at the edge of water, let it come in on your feet, perfection!

I liked the fact it was a smallish beach, not crowded, beautiful clear, clean water and no beach vendors.
I also liked the view looking out to sea,and the group of restaurants behind the beach were very good.
It difficult to pick really as there are a good 6 really nice beaches.
I found Kata Noi very nice as I had the best ever Thai food cooked on the beach by a oldish Thai lady. Sadly she was not there last year,Tsunami maybe.
Surin would have been on my list but its a bit far out from Patong compared to Karon and Kata.

I end up at pataong beach most of the time but there is a lot of very nice beaches in Phuket.
My favourite beaches are
Nai harn beach
Nui beach (between Kata and Nai Harn)
Bang Tao beach (You have lot of empty uncrowded space if you walk away from the front of laguna)
Laem Sing beach (But it can be crowded, lot of Italians last time I was there)
Kamala beach
Karon/Kata (noi) beach
Patong beach
If you want take a longtail then you also have
Freedom beach
Paradise beach
I live in Patong so ofcourse I choose Patong beach most of the time, it is not one of the best one but still good enough. Almost all beaches in Phuket is great anyway.

Great list Nicke.................and agree with it wholeheartedly.........except I am not a fan of Patong Beach...........it is about 80% better since the Tsunami (i know that sounds like a terrible thing to say but the thousands of umbrellas + vendors have been geatly reduced and the water is actually a lot clearer....more like the old days) but it is still too busy and bustling for me to enjoy a relaxing day on it.........
There are some geat islands to explore just off Phuket as well including Racha Yai + Racha Noi not far off Rawai so my advice is to take a day and hire a long tail....it is well worth it for a day in Paradise.....you can also take day speedboat trips which stop at several beaches......some of which are almost deserted and very beautiful

Used to take the dogs down to Kata beach, not too crowded and normally minimal waves.

Hey G, where is this in Phuket?
Boracay in the Philippines has a great beach and is a lot closer to Phuket.
But it's not in Phuket or even in LOS.

Some beaches in the Caribbean are great, especially some of the out of the way islands like Barbados. Bora Bora in French Polynesia has some great beaches, and Kadavu in Fiji is beautiful also. They did a picture of the beach in Kadavu on the cover of Islands magazine when they did an issue on Fiji. The article was on all of the deluxe properties but the beach was in front of a $180 a night for 2 including meals resort rather than the $700 a night per person super deluxe resorts like Turtle Island.

Kadavu Fiji, nothing happening at all.
Bora Bora, you can party pretty hard but get ready to take out a second mortgage.
Boracay was pretty cheap, not as inexpensive as Phuket as there are lots of Japanese and Korean tourists but you can find bargains and booze is pretty cheap. Some good music on the beach in places also.
