The ladies that can speak english have probably been around the scene for a while and that is one of the reasons that they learned english. The ladies that can't might be new to the scene. Sometimes good to be able to get your point across, sometimes fun to learn each other language.

When I make mistakes trying to speak another language it just sounds stupid!!! When BGs make mistakes, it's as cute as a bag full of puppies!!!! (thanks LiL) I will take the one with less English!!!

Other way around.
I went for a massage last year and said something in Thai.
The girl answered me and said "you speak THAI".
I answered only "Nid Noy"
And she replied "I think you tell story you speak Thai"
She wouldnt believe me

english
I'll take a girl who speaks decent english over one who doesn't any day. It is much easier to get them to teach you Thai when you ask for help for meanings of words, pronounciations, or how to say something in Thai.

Another take on them understanding more than they let on... I spent a few days with a lady that appeared to be one of the bigger face girls at her bar. When we'd hang out around other thai girls, she seemed to really understand english alot more than she'd let on... I couldn't put it together, as we had reasonable level of difficulty communicating in english when we were alone, but she would listen to me using big words talking to a farang friend and nod her head at the appropriate times and her body language seem to grasp the conversation. My friend began saying things like "I wouldn't postulate that the woman in question comprehends that the conversation revolves around her..."- and still the understanding nod, and glance to the other girl. Finally figured out she was sorta showing off for her friend, since her english was better than her friend's, she was trying to look like she understood what we were saying.

I prefer good english in order to communicate, the whole scene becomes more comfy, at least for me and it's more fun in every way, to know the person you're spending the night with, alittle better. I met a girl that according to her had been a BG for a year but her english was not very good and her writing even worst. But she knew alot of phrases in swedish The one that really made a strong impression was the one that was more determinated to communicate, she looked up words (she had a pocket dictionary) and showed those to me so that I could understand what she was trying to say and looked up words I said that she didn't understand Very nice girl indeed.

Although I don't speak Thai all that well, I'm comfortable enough with it that I don't really care whether she speaks English or not. Sometimes I even prefer that they can't.

as a newb
as a newbie i preferred the girls with some english, just an easier arrangement.
now when i look for a BG its the opposite, no english means i have to practice thai. BGs speaking good english now are good for a chat for me, but when it comes to the girl of the moment, i prefer those not so long in the game.
worst thing is if i have been speaking bar/thaiglish for too long, and i have to talk with an educated english speaking thai, its a bit embarassing as they know where you have been socialising.

The ones with good english are quite cocky indeed, have a gigantic head about it. Good on em too, they are clever girls and learn fast.I give em a bit of ozzi slang and that f..ks em. one girl i was with never wanted to speak thai also, she said to me the day i learn thai, thats the day she leaves me. She obviously was up to something. The one iam seeing now actively educates me...

Don't mind either.....it's a good way to sum up what type of girl you have.....it's not rocket science the better english she can speak, the longer she has been exposed to farangs (in a manner of speaking).......bit like the way the sum us up by asking questions such as where we stay, is this your first time to Phuket ? etc etc

you'd be surprised how fast they learn 'BG english'. I've seen no english to being able to say/understand everything a BG needs to in a couple of weeks.
I always try to speak good english with the TGs i know as it is too easy to speak pidgeon english and they stop improving. I'm sure many of you still speak like this for a few days when you get back home "where are you going John?" ....."I go shop now"

it's very endearing. my GF said the other night "look that lady praw dee tue"
...'she what?' i asked trying to figure out what she had said in thai. "Praw dee tue" she exclaimed annoyed that i did not understand. 'Are you spaking english or thai?' i ask....more angry "argh, why you not know english...your language?!" I then dawned on me she said "Prostitute" LOL

I am not English, but at least some conversation is welcome!
I think it is very annoying, if the girls does not understand what you mean!

hehe yeah the 'Sa' for anything beginning with 'S' ie:"Sa-nake" is always a laugh but Sa-Ba-Ge-ti is tops, mentioned that one before in an old similar thread.

Actually turns me off if they cant speak resonable english, As I just end up being frustrated at not being able to communicate with them properly, And them looking at you like you have 10heads when they cant understand, Makes me feel stupid..55555..
