The alternative if you are truly determined to be with her is for her to get a job outside of Patong, somewhere else in Phuket (yes there is a lot more life outside Patong). She can work for the average 8,000 to 10,000 baht a month in a department store or in a tour company. If she hides her tattoos and dresses conservatively and speaks politely, her English skills will get her far and her salary will go up fast.
The only hitch is that she will think that 8,000 baht is peanuts compared to the big money she has made sleeping around'. So if she can't wean herself off that, then you know where you stand and dump her.
|
I guess the only thing here is that, how far would those 8000 get her with her family and perhaps childrens aswell? Sure she can live on that alone, but how can she send 8-15000bath a month to her family that takes care of her childrens ? Even if a BG would like to get a normal job it seems impossible in most cases, atleast without help getting trough the roughest parts.
While i can see this guys point, and i certainly dont have the experience to argue against him. But the only chance for these girls in most cases seems to be to meet a rich farang that takes care of her and her family. In what other way can she support her family and kids as an uneducated farm girl?

Leaving the additional thai-related issues aside, those downsides to running a bar are equally applicable to owning a pub anywhere.
Being a co-licensee on our old family Freehouse pub in Cornwall showed me that, 15hour days, 7days a week.
Enjoyable if you like the lifestyle, murder if you dont.

The family money pit trap is a common miss conception.. If an average issaan wage is 5k and people live on that why should she have to send 3x a normal persons wage to help her family..
My wifes father lived on 3 rice harvests a year at about 40k per harvest.. Sure they were poor but that supported a whole family of people..
Often once the girl starts sending the money it becomes a slippery slope of consumerism not survival that pressures her to stay in the bar.

OK as the frog said.. read it..
Well seems pretty on the mark to me.. Sure its a little over stating his point and I also think that the nightlife area of Patong isnt the horror he partly made it sound but I think there is a bsic truth to most of his statements..

Ok, but that isnt easier to get out of either is it? Family's taking bank loan's after being sent money from their daughters forcing them to keep on doing what they are doing.

Yeah well I dont want a woman thats door mat to anyone including her own family.. Help is one thing pimping your daughter out to get a new motorbike is entirely another...
My impression of issaan was 10's of teenage and adult males sitting around day in day out drinking lao khao waiting for the rice to grow.. I have no problem 'assisting' a family if I was genuinely a part of it but I work for mine they can work for theirs..

i have pounded that thought into Ao for 2 years now, and she has listened
she now doesnt bat an eyelash when her mother calls and asks for money becasue her 19yr old brother does something stupid. she gives what she has to to support her baby and thats it. and you can see the difference in her attitude, its liek night and day without the pressure
