If you go to the market, its a bit of a horror story, the butcher side of things consists of big wooden blocks where the meat is laid out non refridgerated. The butcher will wave away flies with the use of stick and a plastic bag on the end.

When I get home its the same scenario, the meat doesnt go in the fridge but to be fair is prepared for cooking almost straight away but of course all of this is done in 30c heat

I have had the shits more times than i can count and the wife the same but its no big deal as it usually doesnt involve stomach cramps

When your are eating the food its a fight with the flies to see who gets the most to eat!!!!!

I think its really important that when u buy from a barbi that u ensure the meat is cooked thoroughly, I suspect also the pre marination helps to preserve the meat

but u can be sure the vendors will have bought their meat from the same sort of place as i have described

I tend to find certain foods give me some problems more than others. I went through a very long period of eating very little farang food, when i did eat some it was pretty heavy going

Ive walked through the meat markets at Phuket town a few times.all under a tin roof open to the elements and watched chicken & meat being chopped and diced often wondered if most of the hotels, resturaunts and steet vendors all get there produce from the same source. Its all in the cooking and handling that counts.

Last night's TG was saying how Thai people will eat ANYTHING. I remembered (but didn't tell her about) the night before I was watching how a Farang had managed to catch a cockroach under an ashtray on the bar top of a go-go in Nana and was playing with it to the amusement of his posse of girls. Couldn't help thinking (probably unfairly) that if the Farang hadn't been there it would have been lunchtime...

The worst thing I've ever come across in a market was in Chinatown BKK, those barrels of 'maturing' fish guts stewing away in the afternoon sun - closest I've ever come to losing my lunch in public (probably would just have added to the flavour )

If it looks good, smells good and tastes good, probably best not to think too hard about where it came from - same-same as BGs.
