Hey - are there any computer software shops in Phuket as I will be over in April and would like to pick up some cheap software.

If you're looking for the latest stuff, you'd do better to stop at Panthip Plaza on your way through Bangkok. Any taxi driver can find it.

In Phuket, LivinLOS has it right. Bangla stalls are where you want to go. Also, inside the Ocean department store on Bangla.......on the left after you've entered.

Most of the time, but you really do need to know what your buying. Sometimes they try and flog off beta copies, once I was after windows XP with SP2, and they tried to sell me a release candidate copy.

les1999 - No need to buy it, you can steal it right of the internet as everyone else does. And if you run a succesfull business that realy requires a special software, well then you can afford to buy it elsewhere.

Everyone knows piracy is rampant in Thailand, both for software and movies. It's an venerable institution.

There are a couple of Phuket cable TV stations that have the balls to play movies bought off Bangla road. Many are obviously filmed on video in a movie theatre. Sometimes the movie actually pauses for a bit while they switch VCDs. I had to laugh the other night, when some movie was emblazoned with the words "Promotional Copy. Do not sell."

It's also a laugh when they get the soundtrack settings wrong and, instead of the regular dialogue, you get the bonus track where a couple of actors pontificate about the film as it's playing.

may I also add that if you have the filesharing program, `shareazaa` it will automatically dowload a link you click on in minova.
