Silk in The Plaza Surin for Royal Thai cuisine
Oriental Spoon in Twin Palms for best Sunday brunch on the island (oysters, seafood, roast meats, cheeses, wine for about 1,000 baht per head)

Some bars (tin shacks) down by the beach for those on a budget. Divers bar is popular. Surin Bay Inn is well used by locals and Envision wine bar is opening up soon.

Rockfish in Kamala is pretty good as well.

Never really been a big fan of Surin. Nice beach (but sometimes too busy), but at night it's just goddamn awful, regardless of season. If quiet is needed, I much rather prefer Kamala. At least we have a few good bars.

Can’t say I agree with all the praise Rockfish has gotten. Been there twice and nothing really special. Not bad or anything, but I can get an equally good dish other places for less than half the price.

Wouldn’t worry too much about not getting a drink. But (other than some of the hotels) I’ll be damned if I can think of even one bar up there. Bay and Capri ++ all have bar desks, and so do most of the beach places. But it’s oh so quiet right now.

Drove past there around 9 in the evening the other day and saw a total of 0 people in the restaurants on the beach, not including Tom’s that always seem to have some activity. Shame since some them are quite good.

Might pick up slightly in July though.

IJ,

Was in Silk last night but service not the same since Rob (URTheMan) left. The barman didn't understand my English or Thai when I asked for a Wine List. I had to help him open the bottle as it was a Kiwi Screw top. Food was very good though.

EnVision Wine bar in my old block (next to Capri) opened 1st May but is WINE ONLY.

Audi's on the beach to the right at the end is great for lunch and half litre freshly squeezed Vodka Oranges. Be careful !

Cheers,
Sleesy.

the other option is to head to Laguna, lots of restaurants there. Used to like Black Cat in Cherng Talay.

how long do you actually plan on staying in Surin for IJ? i think you will find it boring, the only bar we used to hang out in has gone. Other than that it was stay home in the pool.

Hi IJ,

As you might know I live in Surin as does Sleezy I have PM'ed you as I work in a hotel right next to Surin Bay Inn, and also have a nice restaurant that's not too Pang Mak Mak it's called Weave's and I should be in Phuket during this time so I'll get you sorted on the good eats and cheap drinks places.
Also maybe a little 2 minute trip to the Chedi's private beach and have some drinks with your Telaak would be a stlyin thing.

Cheers!
