There is no point to one sided discussions, this thread has gone down the crapper.

So because I have an opinion that you dont like or agree with, Its one sided?
Do I not have a right to my opinion in the same way you and I have a right to "clean air"?

I think we are missing the point here........ you cant drive on the pavement !!! because the law says you cant and you cant smoke in certain places because the law says you cant. Nuff said.
Smoking and driving are very clearly two very different issues.
Smokers must accept that they are a minority who have gotten away with murder for years because the government have been creaming off huge amounts of tax by pandering to peoples addictions, Non smokers must accept that if these people want to kill themselves that is their choice. When the government withdraw health care for them more people will quit (This is being said very much tongue in cheek) ...... whats next withdrawing primary care for fatties and ginger people and anyone called Bob, Jane or Phil.
Respect peoples boundrys and rights and relax a little.

Surely the answer to this is that provision should be made for smokers. At work I am used to going out to the "bus shelter" to have a cigarette, in hotels I book a smoking room, in a non-smoking bar I go outside or don't go there at all.
There are places where I wouldn't dream of lighting up such as on the MTR, on an airplane, etc.
There are to parties here and each has its own rights and beliefs. In the end the proprieter or employer must make his own decision.

You are a minority.................... ???? Its a fact. Most people do not smoke yet we are subjected to your second hand smoke. I myself have no problem with you smoking but please dont expect me to be happy about inhaling your smoke
"Got away with murder" dont mean in the literal sense although how many people have died through passive smoking ?????

I remember chatting with Devman about this issue over a few scoops at the MTB. Your clothes really smelled of tobacco mate! 55555555555
I hear you and why should you have to put up with that deal. You had booked that room to find it stank! Even after all your attempts at airing the place. They then moved you into a pokey little place which obviously wasn't what you wanted. So I empathise with you Devman.
I think all you can do in future is to strongly stipulate your request for a non-smoking room and hope that they can keep their end of the bargain! Keep the email as it has been recommended we keep the ones about the hotel being Girl friendly.
I smoke like a chimney and love my smokes! I guess living in it, we smokers don't notice it as much or have gotten used to it. I like nothing better than having a fag back in my room! (I know, I know, I'm waiting)
Good luck next trip Devman, nice meeting you. Your turn for the beers BTW!

Wouldn't want to keep you waiting!! So is that (fag) what they are calling LBs these days?
BTW, talking to my new Thai teacher last Sunday, she says that when she grew up living in LOS, the word "katoey," did not mean LB, it just meant any gay person. They didn't have the word "gay" at that time. There were only two words used: 1)katoey which was the polite word for gay man, and 2) dtoot, which was the slang, and demeaning word for gay man(Thai version of "faggot").
I told her that it is my impression that now they use the word "gay" for polite word for gay person, and that "katoey" specifically means LB. She was surprised to hear that and seemed a little bit skeptical.
Am I right in what I told her?

Smoking In Your Hotel Room ?
Hello all . . .
Firstly, yes . . . I am a pack a day man, and have been for some thirty years.
For my last three trips to Patong, I have stayed at C @ N Hotel, as many on this Site do. The rooms I have had have all had a sliding 'Ranchslider' door, and a hinged door also, both leading to a rather small balcony.
The only 'smoking' I want inside the room, is usually done by my companion. I have actually taken the lady of the day out onto the balcony and had it away, with her slouched on the usually quite rusty air-con unit that always resides there.
Yes, I usually have a smoke too, while I'm out there!
cheers

I’m no expert, but I believe I have read somewhere (think it was in the book the Third Sex) that the usage of the term has indeed changed from referring to “hermaphrodites” to LBs. But also that the term “katoey-saloey” has been used as a pejorative term for gays (like uhm fags?)

No,
what I am saying is that smokers should show some consideration to non smokers. Its not so hard to do without throwing a sh#t fit or tantrum.
I have no problem with you smoking anywhere where it is permitted and if I want to use the same facilities as yourself I will do so, what I do however object to is not having the choice of being in a smoke free environment or the option of choosing one.
Surely everyone can see the sense in this. No need to get so defensive......... have another fag and chill out.
Results Across the United Kingdom as a whole, passive smoking at work is likely to be responsible for the deaths of more than two employed people per working day (617 deaths per year), including 54 deaths in the hospitality industry each year. Each year passive smoking at home might account for another 2700 deaths in persons aged 20-64 years and 8000 deaths among people aged 65.
Conclusion Exposure at work might contribute up to one fifth of all deaths from passive smoking in the general population aged 20-64 years, and up to half of such deaths among employees of the hospitality industry. Adoption of smoke free policies in all workplaces and reductions in the general prevalence of active smoking would lead to substantial reductions in these avoidable deaths.

But nobody has disagreed with having non-smoking areas, I dont smoke in non-smoking areas and I understand and accept fully your right to have a smoke free enviroment in those areas, It everywhere else which seems to be the problem.

Can you prove that those deaths are because of passive smoking and not say for instance, From inhalation of pollution caused by cars for instance (Which is a much greater chance)? Can you?, Simple answer is no, Its always might or likely but never have do you see 100% proof because it cant be proven....

Unfortunatly Alfie, Times have changed, Its now against health and safety to carry any food goods out on a horse and cart, Or have them exposed to the enrivoment, It has to be refridgerated, So theres that out the window
Also due to the population growing and all the immigrants coming in, There is a lack of land for housing etc..etc.. So instead having different dairys all over the city, Now they just have one big one, So you would not have a hope regardless of the health and safety aspects of delivering milk across the city in time, Unless your name was Santa Claus...5555555555..
But nice try Alfie

Her·maph·ro·di·tus (hər-măf'rə-dī'təs) pronunciation
n. Greek Mythology.
The son of Hermes and Aphrodite, who became united in one body with the nymph Salmacis.
[Latin Hermaphrodītus, Greek Hermaphrodītos : Hermēs, Hermes + Aphrodītē, Aphrodite; see Aphrodite.]

Ahhh, to have been a philosopher in ancient Greece. Walk around all day wrapped in a bed sheet and all you do is drink, think and shag.
Hmmm. Not that different from my life really. (Could do without the affection for little boys though.)
