Been known to kill divers/snorkelers in Vanautu.Only takes one to bite and the blood attracts others and starts a feeding frenzy.

Seeing the messages and pictures of the snakes on the second page, it reminds me of a potentially life-threatening experience a few months ago in the UK.
We had been in the pub for a while, and were just about to head-off to somewhere else. As we walked out to the car, one of my mates notcied something sinister lurking on my car. We moved a little closer to check it out, but were not really sure what it was.
We phoned the local animal park to see if they had anything missing that day. We described what we had seen and they said that they would send somebody to capture it.
A short while later a truck arrived and out jumped the Keeper who was (I think) a German. We showed him what we had found, and he got dressed up in all sort of protective clothing. With a large net he captured the spe***en and put it into a box. Then, we asked what it was. He explained that it was a dangerous creature, especially to drunkards, and was found all over the world.
It was a 'vindscreen viper'.
(I'll get my coat ...)

Sorry but that is the movie version. Spent years diving and snorkelling with sharks, if anything if you encounter them consider yourself lucky as they are usually very shy, that and they are being hunted to extinction (Don't Eat Shark). There are no dangerous sharks in the waters around Thailand.

From the Gary Hall Attack :-
After feeling a bump on her shoulder, Bebe realized a second, larger, shark had been attracted to the two swimmers. Bebe shot the shark with her spear gun, as it turned, mouth open, towards her. After Bebe removed the spear from the shark’s throat, it swam away as Gary and Bebe reached the safety of their boat, but not without injuries. Bebe was injured in the attack, but she will make a full recovery.
You shoot me with a spear gun I gonna be pissed at you and have a go, This is another media hype report.
Seriously they are not a dangerous species I have swam with hundreds of them and never had an "incident" Like any creature you threaten or provoke them they react.

In Indonesia we soon learned to shake out our wetsuits and booties before putting them on, palm-sized spiders often hid down the legs and once I also dived with a cockroach without knowing it - I dunno if it was dead before we jumped in or if died in the water! I didn't mind the spiders in the huts though because they kept the cockroaches in check. Lots of critters there... if you left fruit out you'd have bats coming in
Here I've only come across a couple of snakes (one of them red-necked fellows there were pictures of and a big black one) and have a four-legged spider living in the second bathroom, I take care not to hoover him when I clean because I feel sorry for the little er, legwise challenged creature...

If your 4 legged friend is still living, may I suggest it is living on something's else that you probably woould not eat yourself.
I am not trying too bump here, but has anyone consumed any of this stuff???
If you have, I gotta know why.

Yesterday 2 snakes
I was at home as the bar was closed on the Kings Birthday.I was having a coffee in the kitchen an my lady ran in from the front yard. She had gone to the front gate and just outside in the grass beside it were two big snakes intertwined together. She cr@pped herself and rattled the gate .The snakes moved off deeper into the bushes which separate my house from my neighbour. So between my house and next door there is a small over grown area about 15 feet wide over grown with bushes. They are probably nesting in there.
I might have to do a pre emptive strike to encourage them to get back up hill to the forest.

That more or less what I did last time.I started a small fire on the edge of the brush and cleared it all away. There is a field leading back up hill to the forest so they have a safe escape route.

There's a big one near me. Seen him a couple of times but not had my camera with me.
We hear him a hell of a lot mostly nighttime. This is what they sound like if you've ever wondered what this noise was!!>>>

Have you never heard that when you've been here before? They're up the hillside at the back of Nanai road. First time I heard it I thought it was a big cane toad that I'd seen earlier. I don't mind most of the creatures that slip/slide and crawl across my balcony but I'm not too keen on the snakes and scorpions.

LoS, thanks for posting that sound-bite. I'd heard that 'noise' most nights during my previous trips to Patong, and I wondered what it was. I thought that maybe somebody nearby had a parrot or parakeet, and maybe it had heard some odd noise and was mimicing them. Now I know, many thanks.

This is what they look like...about 12 inches long...but the one I've seen I've not had a camera with me at the time.

This happy piggyback pair were outside the apartment yesterday. They even did the "if we stay motionless he can't see us bit" for me so I could go in and get my camera.
I assume they are of the opposite sex!
