Not Phuket Ok not even Thailand actually. On the island of Komodo during mating season. Two big males fighting over one female, nothing changes there then. I was a bit nervous taking these shots, these guys have skin like metal but still they were ripping each other to pieces, if you look closly at the first picture what appears to be a stick in the Dragons mouth is actaully his lips which have been nearly ripped clean off.

This is my 3rd in about a week....so there must be a whole herd of them around here :-( Looks like a bit of camerashake because I hate them. The cats dealt with the last 2 but weren't around to sort this one. The ones round here aren't poisonous are they?

this is the warning on a travel website i used ages ago and saved,
Poisonous Scorpions in Thailand
Skorpion
Size: < 10 cm
Habitat: Throughout Thailand, ground level only.
Characteristics: Colour is from grey to brown and black.
Danger level: harmless
The scorpions in Thailand do have poison, however it is so mild that it is comparable to the sting of a bee or a wasp. The sting is painful but harmless, however some people might develop an allergic reaction. The sting should therefore be immediately disinfected.
For conservation reasons please do not kill these animals, but catch them and free them into the wild.

One of those things with 100's of legs...was about 9 inches long. Should have put something alongside it to show the scale>>>

probably the best place to see some wildlife that isn't squished on the road>>>
Khao Phra Thaeo Wildlife Park
With much of the island given over to tourism development there are few places left on Phuket for trekking. The only remaining patch of virgin jungle, Khao Phra Thaeo Wildlife Park, is home to rare wild animals, such as langurs, porcupines, and macaques, which would become extinct in fast-growing Phuket but for this nature conservation area. The park offers the best trekking in Phuket with a well preserved natural environment. May through October is the best time for jungle trekking when the forest is full of blossoms. The park has a marked hiking route for visitors to follow.

Lots more about GRP here>>>
Wild Animal Rescue Foundation of Thailand (WARF)
Looks like it's not a good idea to be a Slow Loris in Phuket!!>>>
Two new slow lorises were received this month, one form Bangkok which unfortunately died of pneumonia soon after arriving at the project, and the second received from the local village. This second loris has joined another baby in the rehabilitation site and both slow lorises shall be released in the near future.
The GRP are still mourning the loss of Shirley (adult female) and her nearly 6 month old baby Kernow to a three metre long adult python that slithered into their cage during the night of August 17 th . Shirley was killed but presumably too large for the snake to swallow and left on the floor of the cage where her body was collected by GRP staff and later buried. However, baby Kernow was swallowed and then the swollen python was too large to exit the cage. GRP staff cut through the cage to catch the snake and carried it to a site for release near the Khao Phra Thaew Non-Hunting Area's office, clear of GRP's Rehabilitation site. Shirley's mate Mai was uninjured but clearly distressed. Currently he is in a cage next to Mee and Jojo and the staff are considering a new mate for him so that he still has a chance of release.
