jellyfish on karon beech?
hello everyone, i was at karon beech yesterday and noticed a hell of alot of jellyfish in the water. i have to admit they scared the shit out of me because i know some species of jellyfish are worse than others. i know in AUS they have poisonous ones that can really F**k you up. id just like to know if the jellyfish around thailand are the very poisonous kind or are they the ones that just give you a little sting
thanks in advance

Best quick remedy for a jellyfish sting is urine. I only swim on beaches popular with Germans.

Some sting some dont..
Took jimmys whole brood over to a little beach and when we got there the water was just teeming with these jellyfish.. After a while we plucked up courage and found out they didnt sting.. However even knowing that swimming in them was kinda freaky and hard to adjust to..
I have had a couple of painful stings while snorkeling.. Monsoon season and rough weather they get chopped up and so you dont even need to brush a jellyfish you just get stung by bits of tentacles, usually this way though its not too major a sting.

Sorry to contradict , but urine is definately not advised for jelly fish stings , best thing to use is acetic acid (better known as white vinegar).
This will neutralise any nematocyts (stings) that have not yet discharged into the skin. Using water , alcohol or urine will encourage the release of venom.

Best quick remedy for a jellyfish sting is vinegar. I only swim on beaches with a fish and chip shop nearby.

Just saying that urine is not a good idea , also , if you are snorkling/diving then most organised trips will carry vinegar in their first aid kit.

Jellyfish salad - popular Japanese dish. Not bad, really.
I really hate swimming with them though. What kind of a sick deity thought those things up?
I would like to know whether the ones around Phuket are the super painful variety. Does anyone know about those frisbee-sized ones with the dangly-bits that look like bunches of grapes?
Do we have deadly Box Jellyfish around here?
