I would have to say shakers on rat-u-thit road, up past cristins on the left, the biggest is also 400g but is very good, i dont eat any lunch if i plan on going there in the evening, and i can eat a lot of food, the sauces you get there are also very good.

oh how i miss them

Great steak at "The Islander" in the soi opposite Soi Seadragon.
Ask for the NZ/Australian steak as I don't think the other one is as good.
Very tasty pepper sauce as well. IIRC its about 400baht.

I was also disappointed with Buffalo. The other day (Friday) I had a craving for a burger. Wanted to try Faulty's but it was closed. The double burger at Buffalo was so crap I couldn't even finish it. Shakers was also no good IMO.

But the plank steak (pork) at Buffalo is superb.

If the cholesterol doesnt matter then give the Faulty Towers steak a go - good value too and the (German trained) chef will cook it any way you want -properly.

Best steaks in town at Sams at the holiday Inn...
Good steaks at Karlsons or for exmaple the Belgian Steakhouse (soi La Diva).
Also a very good steak at Flavours (at entrance to Ban Thai).

I must admit I haven't even been to Patong since before the tsunami (usually just go to BKK and Patts now - sorry lads), but there used to be a really good French steak house on Sawadirak Road, more or less opposite the Salathai Resort. I think it was called La Boucherie. Really good steaks and they did a great boeuf bourguignon stew with mashed potatoes.

**** me! I'm talking about food again! I'm off to Patts again soon and I hereby resolve to do nothing but drink, do the nasty and write field reports.

Agree with IJ on this one, Rico's is the best place for steak I've found so far, the Green Man at Chalong was quite good though.

i like Ricos and Harry's, i seem to prefer the Scanno steak houses. I go for planksteaks or pepper sauce with the potato gratin if i need a carb hit.

Shakers - the steak was huge but not great quality and the pepper sauce was like milk with peppercorns in it - vile.

Sam's in Holiday Inn - very very nice but expensive.

Also tried the pepper steak at Red Onion in Karon - v cheap at 280 or so and I got 2 medium sized steaks with decent pepper sauce.

Should have said I tend to like steaks a bit tougher.. Sirloin is always a chewers steak but fuller flavour so I even find Thai domestic beef ok..

Next time try the roquefort !!!

Shakers, the only restaurant were I have sent back a steak. Ordered a tenderloin, medium rare. Received a cut open, extremely well done piece of beef, which was certainly not a tenderloin. Ate there quit a bit but after that, never been back....

I would second 'the Islander' Great steaks and all round food. The owner is English and married to a Thai girl. Been there years.

P.S. also sells Strongbow at good pric
es.

The biggest steak ever i was eating in Kata. When you walk from Kata Center to the back road, there is an Aussie on the right side with a restaurant. I do not remember the name of the restuarant, but the steak was great.
