From Phuket to Kaula Lumpur / other places

I think someone posted a message sometime ago on how to get to Kaula Lumpur from Phuket via train but I can't find that message anymore. If anyone has info on how to travel to Malaysia from Phuket, can you share it with me please? I plan to travel to phuket in late Nov but I would like to explore Malaysia as well while I'm down there. If you can tell me the best way to get there, how much it costs and where to stay for 3-4 days that would be a great help to me.

Or if you know any Thai travel agents online that I can check their tour programs for Malaysia that would be nice too.

I've seen phi phi, phuket, bangkok, pattaya, chang mai, and would like to extend my list to some other places close to Thailand. If you have any recommendation of places to visit that's not on my list yet, please share it with me.

thank you in advance,

sam

There is no train on Phuket, to get to Malaysia you need to get to Surat Thani, though the actual station is at Phunphin a short ride out fo town.

I've never done the train part myself, it's better to fly, or even go by mini bus. you could be as long as 3 hours just getting to the train and they are not that fast.

Costs etc you can find somewhere on the net.......It's not a common journey (I suspect most of the Playboys on here fly everywhere) so you own research or using the Lonely planet guide is a better option

The best way from Phuket may be bus.

Take a bus to Hat Yai from Phuket Town, maybe 300 baht or something.
When you arrive at Hat Yai, you can take another bus to either Kuala Lumpur, Penang or Singapore.

I am sure the buses may be more comfortable than the trains, airconditioned and with movies on TV screen.

I think you may be able to take train from Hat Yai to KL aswell but I am not sure.

I prefer airplanes thought, if you would like to skip bus the down to Hat Yai you can take airplane to Hat Yai for 1250 baht and then continue into Malaysia.

If you fly in to Phuket through Singapore (like I do), arrange a couple of days layover there. Then head to the World Trade Center ferry terminal and hop over to Batam, Indonesia. Its well worth the visit for any 'monger'.

Thank everyone. I'll be flying thru BKK to tour there a few days then fly to phuket. Nick... you provided me with good info. thanks... I could of swear someone mentioned a speed train from bkk to phuket and onward to Malaysia long time ago. Oh well... I'll continue doing my research to explore more of southeast asia.

Anyone knows how long does it takes to go from Hat Yai to Kuala Lumpur via vip bus? And how much? VS flying to Kuala Lumpur??

Thanks in advance...

Hatyai is the commercial centre of Southern Thailand and it is located 50km (about an hour drive) from Bukit Kayu Hitam on the Malaysian border.

Go to Bukit Kayu Hitam, buses cost 18B and take 90 minutes from Hatyai. Buses run every 10 minutes between 6am and 7.20pm.
Share-taxi from Hatyai to Bukit Kayu Hitam is probably the fastest way of travelling and cost about 150B-200B per person for the one-hour trip.
Then take a taxi to Alor Star, the capital of the state of Kedah,Malaysia.
Book a flight ticket from Air Asia to Kuala Lumpur, it will cost around 500 Baht (RM 48.88) one way.

Note: Air Asia..cheap airline like Ryan's Air in Europe.

You can also fly direct to KL from Phuket (Malaysia Airlines) for around 3000+ Baht.(one way)....one flight per way...usually noon.

Have a pleasant trip!

P.S. Try the massage parlours in Kuala Lumpur for 'extra' services
