Not That I'm Planning Too....
... but does anyone have any advice if you have any problems with the Police or even get arrested.
I do not go looking for trouble and try to avoid it, i have never been in trouble in England or any where else for that matter don't even have a speeding ticket.

hi thai learner, you won,t get any probs, providing you don,t get involved in anything illegal!
don,t go anywhere near drugs -even cannibis is a VERY serious offence
if you suspect that anyone you take back to your hotel room is on drugs ask them to leave
some of the bar-girls(very few) use ya-ba (met-amphetamine) this causes them to act irrationally (i had this prob a few years back)--had to ask her to leave the room , i still payed her -just incase of any further probs
if you hire a m/bike make sure to wear the crap plastic helmet provided and have your licence and international licence too, or you may be stopped at a check-point and releived of some "tea money"
just be nice to thai,s and smile -never lose it or raise your voice and don,t befriend male thai,s willy nilly
im making it sound frightning but in 12 or so visits ive never had any probs at all -only fun fun fun

As long as your not the kind of guy who likes a ruck after a few too many beers and you avoid drugs while here your unlikely to have any serious issues parking fines, locked up bike, not having a license etc are all minor and pretty easy to handle.
The longer you stay or live here the more likely that you will eventually have some kind of run in and as stated, remain polite, remain VERY cvalm, do not raise your voice or get pissed off, try to smile etc.. I have found that they have been good as gold to me even when its been my own drunken fault. Longer term its good to befriend a few of them and at least get on name terms even if your not close.. Having a friendly coppers number in your phone can really help at the scene of a crash or any little thing.

I spent one week in jail in Spain when I was 18.
When I meet policemen abroad after that I make a big detour so I don't have to come too close to them.

This happend in that time the spanish islands was the most exciting place to go for a holiday, at least where we could afford to go. I went three weeks to Tenerife to stay with my spanish girlfriend, and one night the drunk norwegian idiot (me) had to play Superman (Supermao) or something, ended up in trouble and "accidentally" hit a policeman in his face. His associates wasn't very happy, and on the way to the jail it was payback time.

I agree with that, as long you behave you will be better off. I never had any big problems but I do know a lot of police men, if they will be to any help when I have trouble, I dont know yet. One of my best police friends is boss of Krabi region now and gave me some bodyguards when I had problems in the past.

Most police accept bribes. Its better to pay up front and avoid going to the police station. I once paid 2000 baht to a police man after accepting the chance of having a bj in an alley way. It was a set up.

Make sure you carry your driving licence if driving.
Technically, you should carry your passport, but a good photocopied / laminated will do - copy the visa stamp pages and the id pages. This shows you`re not an overstayer.

thai police as family are a definate asset but of course with them as family or potential family certain moral behaviour is expected. if i am a drunken/monger in my gfs town and am seen at the local cathouses or discos chasing bgs or tgs, am i keeping my end of the bargain, of course not. play by the rules whether family morals or rules of the kingdom and the only trouble most would face is from idiot farangs or the genuine thai criminal element.
police in non-farang thailand i have found to be polite, and genuine once they know you are a very little chance of hassle to them. compare them to the police who are wise to farangs in tourist thailand a completely different type of operator i think.
as said before when dealing with the police, remain calm, dont raise your voice accept their interpretation of the rules. thai people do not argue with the police, their power is almost absolute.
my gf once said to me that if i ever have problem with police outside of her province to call her and she will call her uncle first, then if he cant fix the problem he will involve her father. thai police is very structured and they build up lifelong friendships from training to promotion courses to deployments to the border areas etc.
how many times have frequent travellers or expats seen farangs call the thai police into their farang vs farang disputes ?, i personally believe avoid the thai police keep it in house.
thai police really dislike dealing with farangs, we are only hassle to them, we are an unknown quantity.
i have read the tourist police manual with a thai policeman. it is almost loudicris in its writing. this policeman when finding he had a farang in town, got the manual sent up from bkk so i could help him with it. stayed in that town for a week, a small rural town in the central plain and was treated so well by the police and their families.
childish in its writing to patronising in the way its says for the policeman to look concerned and look like he is suffering with you.
and believe it or not it had lines in it about how the bargirl robbed you, as we all know farangs only get robbed by bgs .
