Lightbulb Cost Of Electircals

Just wanted to know if anyone had UTD info in how much Ipods and computers are in Phuket...

We will be flying through Singapore on our way to Phuket on the 27th September.

It's Robbie's birthday in August and he wants one of the latest Ipods and wonder if it is cheaper to buy here in Australia, in Singapore at the airport, or in Phuket??

And as for a computer that we may want to purchase...we'll be bringing our laptop but this may not satisfy the desires of the 14 y/o!!! How much for a computer big enough to do the gaming that kids (and not such kids LOL) do? in Singapore or Phuket.

Any help or ideas would be appreciated as always...

Marcia

There was a recent thread on this very subject. IIRC, the general consensus was that electronics and computer goods are cheaper in Europe and the US than in LOS. They are definitely cheaper here in the US. I don't know about prices in Oz or Singagpore.

For a desktop PC your better of buying it in Phuket, you wont have to carry it around with you from Singapore. As for prices there really isnt much difference these days. If your after a good gaming machine, then buy a top/good video card here in Oz before you depart, as the higher end cards arent readily available in Phuket, well they werent when I was there.

Hi Marcia...

Try ebay and looking for Hong Kog sellers.... I saved about 40gbp on buying a psp from Hong Kong with delivery and insurance (delivery was garenteed within 3 days... I got it in 2) sometimes you can turn up a bargin... But check some of these other sites before you commit....

Anything coming into Thailand like that would attract the full amount of taxes.

Good point but why not purchase it before the move to Thailand and get it delivered to Australia... Some of them even mark it as gift... I dont know if that is the same for Australia but i know here marked as gift means no import tax

Thanks for your help guys...

Probably buy the computer in Phuket...it's not on the priority list as we're bringing the laptop. But when we do buy one we can always contact Jon back here and he can buy a good graphics card for us and send it over...but i guess this will attract tax Thailand end will it Steve?

Mainly want to know about iPod...he actually wants the iPod Nano...we've asked Robert to search around and find out if it is cheaper at Singapore Airport or duty free here in Sydney before we go...but he, of course, hasn't done anything about that yet!!!

Really.... Ok thats fair enough... I usually get some of my electrical stuff from Hong Kong rather than Europe because i know its a bit cheaper and waiting a few days to a week is not really an isue.. But yeah if you can get it cheaper in OZ, Singapore or Thailand rather than doing as steve says getting it through the middle man in HK then far far better.... Just another option to consider tho when checking prices...

Refer back to an earlier post of yours Cybie...Robbie's looking on ebay and there's a mob in Canberra selling the one he wants which is the Ipod Nano 2 gig for about $250 AUD...think this is a pretty good price...just have to go and check in stores here but I don't think they'll be much cheaper than that...so we might just grab one through ebay...thanks for that...

As for the PC we'll definately buy that in Phuket...and if we need a better Graphics card as Steve said...I'll get Jon to buy us one and post it...but I wonder if I would have to pay tax on that when it comes in...Probably according to Steve...that would add to the cost significantly...
