shopping plaza in Patong?

I was in Patong in February and noticed a large shopping plaza under construction. I think it had a Carrefour and a bunch of other stores. Just wondering if it has opened yet or when it will open.

Cool Still not completed.

It's called Jungeceylon and hit a major glitch with investors and was put on hold.Got a lot of coverage in Phuket Gazette.

I thought it was all steam ahead back in Feb / March time.. Statements like workers back on the site etc.. I cant see any activity or progress myself.

Looking into July and nothing happening makes it seem highly unlikely or hopeful that it will be ready by High Season.

Do you think that there will be enough businesses to fully occupy Jungceylon when it is finally opened? With all the previous talk of the high rents its gonna be really hard for anyone to break even let alone make a profit from opening the type of business needed there.

If Patong is really into the idea of opening up as a bigger tourist destination, then its cinemas, bowling alleys, skating rink, water slide parks and the like that are needed IMO. The big businesses are the only ones with enough financial clout to open up and make it work I would think.

Really is too bad. I am going back in August and was hoping it would be open by then. Doesn't look like that will happen. Will they at least open part of the building or are they waiting to open everything all at once?
Is the Bursari hotel part of that building? It lookes like a really nice hotel and not too expensive during the low season. But I'd imagine I'd get stuck with huge joiner fees if I stayed there? Anyone know if you can avoid these fees at hotels or do they always charge?

Cool Water Park was dropped

An Aussie Company did try to do a water park down near Shakers bar but they had to abandon the project as one greedy land owner would not sell his plot.

Work has started on the Patong Harbour project in the area of land between the south end of the Beach and Simon Cabaret building .

No "Hello Sailor" jokes please.

I aws actually surprised to see that workers were on the Jungceylon sitre today. Saw a gang working on the back side, looking from the fresh market.

Maybe it is going to happen anyway!

I would of thought the increased flights due to come from Korea/HK that Jungceylon would be a huge magnet for them. I can see the site doing very well, even though it may be well in to the new year before it is open.

There's been guys working on site for at least a few weeks, but doesn't seem to be full steam ahead.

I walked pass the mall and saw many nice brand names there.

If they do open, it will be HUGE!!

Would be good competitor for Central Festival.

It will not be real competition to Central. Central's market is more the local population of Phuket as a whole. Jungceylon is targetting more the toerisme market of Patong. It will be agood addition, not competition...

Oo Central Festival is for locals?

I went there and the stuff aint cheap, although tourist can claim refund of tax or VAT, something like that.

Most of the brands there you can get back home anyway.

Most tourist rather go shopping at Phuket Town like Robinsons...etc.

Hardly any tourists ever make it to Phuket town, let alone Robinson's.

Remember that there are plenty of locals with money in Phuket, and they all have kids too, so not all of it is too expensive for them.

I saw a lot of tourist in Phuket town during my day trip there last May. A real challenge driving there. HaHa.

In another Phuket forum, tourist recommend others to shop at Phuket Town also.

I even found a money changer in Phuket Town with better rates than Patong.

I don't disagree that you saw plenty of tourists in Phuket town, but as a percentage of the number of visitors that come to Phuket every year I think its tiny, that was the point I was trying to make.

That's what I would expect, not enough tourists around to be giving crap rates.
