Christmas Time

misteltoe and wine........

I know summer is in full swing, but it will soon be time to start planning for the festive season, which in my opinion is the best time of the year to be in LOS.

Some of you will disagree but I really like to get away from Europe and spend Christmas in a warm tropical climate with so many friendly smiling faces.

I have already booked the flight with Singapore Airlines, but I'm not too sure about the Hotel.

I usually stay at the Banthai, but I received an email informing me that they now have a special (for good customer who always go back, even after you were there when Tsunami hit etc); and get this the special is

2005 Dec Room Rate 3,800 baht per night
2006 Dec Room Rate 4,800 baht per night

Mmmm let me just have a think for a min (£1,000 for 14 nights), and get this they say the price has to go up becasue the Gasoline price has gone up in Thailand.

So a 20% increase in my daily room rate to cover the cost of a Gasoline increase, (although the hotel runs on electricity) No doubt the staff will be getting a cut of this increase to help pay for the fuel for the motorbike journeys

Has anyone else had any daft increases to booking for Christmas, with equally daft excuses.

Regards

Drew

Are you sure they said gasoline and not gas? It may be the gas you produce after a night on the street barbecue that's straining their air con. systems...

Gasoline

No I asked them to explain

And they said that gasoline had risen a lot and it may go up even more before xmas, so my stay would now cost an extra

21,000 baht more than last year

That is an additional revenue (over 2 weeks) for the banthai of 5,500,000 baht.

The greedy monkey's.

At least Di*k Turpin used to wear a mask

Regards

Drew

For GAS read ENERGY (electricity/gas).

Last year was very busy at peak season, so I'm guessing they are upping their prices as they expect another bumper Christmas. Expat and Tana Patong are both hotels that I used last time. Their costs have increased 30% .

I'm seriously considering going to Pattaya for Jan and then travel around and end up in Patong for March on my 3 month visit. Pattaya is half the price of Patong for accommodation during New year.
