I think the number is far to low. I remember once there was a question like this is in one thread and i pointed out that i guess there are no more than 100 bars in phuket. Well as a newbie.So the other Bm´s had a good laugh and estimated a number of more than 900 in phuket. I guess they know it better. This would crash Stickman´s statistic, as he counted a number of 2500 working girls for phuket in total.But if you think there are at least 4-8 girls in every bar in average, me thinks (maybe low again), there would be more than 5000 working girls in phuket.I remember a quote that over 1 mio man are using the services of prostitutes every day in germany.So how many girls are this??

I have looked at this in many ways and come up with many different answers:-

Using the statistic of 23 BGs per 100,000 population based on a population of 66m that gives us 14,773 BGs in LOS.

Or lets take the customer base. In 2003 there were 10m international visitors to Thailand, so by usual demographics you would expect 3.1million males between the ages of 19-59. the average stay was 8.3 days so that gives us 25.7m possible punter days per year, but how many of those visitors are punters? Well I am going to play it safe and say 16%; that gives us 496000 punters or 4.117m punter days. Lets say that on average each punter goes with a bar girl once each day so lets assume 4.117million STs

Research by Brewer et al in 2000 put the number of clients per BG as 868 per year so that gives us 4742 BGs. Each bar girl would earn on average 36000 baht/month from their trade.

Another statistic, the female population of thailand aged between 20 and 44 is 13.5m, so even if only 1 in every thousand worked in a bar that would give you 13,500.

So I have come up with three numbers:-
14,773
4,742
13,500

take the average and you get- 11,005 that's my answer.

That seems like a very high number for a BG.. Working in a very active gogo or soaapy would be more in line but BG's tend to one maybe 2 a day (on rare days) IMHO and still have the slow nights and monthlys..

agree. i see a lot of BGs who barely get 1 customer a week.

More than 2 a day...every day?! Maybe a busy GoGo girl but then she will get choosey and more expensive and work fewer customers.

Are you sure that 84 % of the male visitors dont even once go for a ST during their whole stay?

The number of families visiting Thailand as an holiday destination is increasing but i think still a very big number are single horny males
