Sure, it's still not enough for some serious partying with the girls and have piss ups every day, that's why I said "could get by". How would you interpret "could get by"? Maybe I used the wrong words. Everything I mentioned is quite easy to find in Pattaya for those prices. And IMHO the 1100B can be enough for one to live on during the day.

Agreed, maybe it's just me drinking too much and enjoy my company having a good time, too.

Me too ub2you, but I also know a few people who will laugh it away if you say that you can't/won't have any fun on 3000B/day in Pattaya. I wouldn't for the same reasons as you, but I guess if you don't drink? (alcohol that is)

mhh..not only alcohol, I had to pay 120 baht for a bottle of water in Marine Disco, if that's not an eye-opener...I didn't had the power to go into discussion with the bar guy (as you can imagine, why would I otherwise buy water in a disco;-)

I've spent the last hour reading every word of this thread, i hope we dont see the end of it, i reckon it will continue while the guy is away. We all hear myths that thailand is dirt cheap, and it is in comparisson to other countries.

But i assume that in thailand is not what you buy but how many of it you buy. I am going to bangkok for first time next week (22/07/06), for 10 days, minus flight time. And i have allready established that i will take just under 100k Baht with me. I will spend a few days in Bangkok and then fly to Patong. As i understand patong has nice beaches and exiting nightlife.
We dont go to holidays to save money, but spend spend and spend.

hlq2action I am only 20 myself, been to Tunisia last winter for christmas. Low tourist season, therefore wasnt impressed and not in a hurry to go back. And since the girl u met in tunisia was your first girlfriend, then i dont think u will be able to hold urself back in thailand. And i believe its a fact, read what old folks write about it, by the looks of it thailand brings the 18 year olds out of them, gives them a reason to live. I remeber you mentioning that you wanna live your life to the full, then apply for a credit card, get as much money as you can and have fun, cause no point going to an exotic country and stand in the corner with a diet coke in ur hand and hold yourself back, that will depress u even more and crying yourself to sleep wont help.

I hope i didnt offend no1, but i thought since i took the time to read the threat, might as well contribute and contribute good.

Well posted vxdxm...very true words from a youngster...from an older member in the forum, 49, with sons your age , older and younger...I was impressed with this post...

I can vouch for what you say about Thailand bringing out the 18 year old in us older folk, that is very true...so true for us that, you may have read on the forum, we are moving there in September to live for a year or two...and can hardly wait...

Phuket/Patong is the most expensive destination in Thailand...but I think there are savings to be made on things like food...we can eat very cheaply in Thailand and this is a real bonus...if you stick to beer, water and soft drinks it's fairly cheap also.

I agree also that you should have enough money so that you can actually take some home if you don't spend it all...as you say why go to an exotic holiday destination only to be sitting in a corner not spending anything...?

I feel that the OP has been love struck and that he is looking for love and a nice girl in Thailand...This could take some time if he considers the bgs prostitues and not suitably "nice"...He has to understand that this is their line of work/business...and if they meet a hansum farang man who falls in love with them and is willing and able to support them... then they have achieved their ultimate goal... IMHO.

Like to be a fly on the wall to see him in the barscene!!!

Marcia

Marcia you hit the nail but i guess every advice we give to this dude, is wasting our time.He has his fixed idea and thinks that he knows everything about life and the world. He is not the only one in his age thinking like that, maybe me included , at least i was already married and divorced again in that age and far away from a virgin

But why asking others for advice, if he doesnt accept the answer?
This is why i am very curious about his trip report, if he has the balls to post it later.

But i think we will never hear anything from him when he is back

seeing as the girl he met in tunisa was his first girlfriend and she REALLY messed him up, you kind of have to worry about him in thailand... God knows i've "fallen in love" MANY times here but i'm one to quickly get over things plus in my mind i'm generally 90% sure i'm in a fantasy land... But from the sounds of him, if he's not careful he could "fall in love" and get taken to the cleaners by the bgs... As he already got himself into the situation in Tunisa where he had no more money and the girl he was with had to give him money for a taxi to the airport...

My suggestion, WATCH yourself mate... take it easy and try to remember, you're still young and a serious relationship should be the last thing on your mind.... Well at least its the last thing on my mind. Go out, explore, meet people and try new things... And don't take things too seriously...

This post has got to be a wind up and a pathetic one at that, from the first post I could not believe you guys responding seriously, the guy has purposefully not got enough money, opens up a story about a girl from Kazak in Tunisia, described as an asian and how he broke his heart, does not like paying money and will girl in thailand expect it, staying at Gracelands with no money, yeah right, is it girlfriendly, nope look at their website it clearly shows guest fee at 1,000 baht and if you just look at the quality of the hotel do you really need to ask, he has read an awful lot or indeed knows phuket very well, just cannot figure out exactly who this is yet.

Okay in the outside chance I am wrong I will definately steer clear of him in September as wow I am a disgusting old bloke that does not like being with guys who cannot stand their corner!!!!

Right Dodger, that thought had crossed my mind as well, but alas.

But nevertheless, if you had a ticket, allready paid for, and could only scrap together 40000B for 2 weeks, then what would you do? Don't go? I'm sure many will say they wouldn't go. But if someone gave me a ticket and 40000B to go to LOS for 2 weeks, my only response would be:"when does the flight leave?"

I just don't think I would have gone to Phuket.

500 euro is not enough tripple it and you have some fun a beer is 1.5 euro
if you like the food on the street like i do it is cheap if you don't you have to go to mac or a restaurant that's more expensive. even if you find love the girl will cost you money the hotel you booked is it GF friendly or it will cost you a bundle to bring the girl in and bring a creditcard (gold) it is not for rich people but in case of trouble you have a back up from 7500 euro you never know.

Well, you all understood what i was searching for, without really searching for it, this first trip for me will be a "Scout Spec ops" to know more about the island, the cheapest hotels to go to... and such,
the next trip i will do will be more about having fun (girls back to room...).

Now that i know that everything in patong is about $$$, i been warned, no more illusions or dreams (sobs... lol).

I am not a big alcohol drinker too.
( 1 liter of beer is far enough for me for one night!! ).
I mean i don t like to get completely drunk.
I am wondering how much liters of beers you all drink in a day (or rather in one night for most of you).

there are some tall women (lookalike) in patong most of them have a deep voice and you may get a surprise once you take a look beneath the skirt..55555 but most tg's aren't that tall.

Ummm, a tg is a thai woman
Do you mean a ladyboy?
If so look in the Ladyboy section and post your questions there.

Actually i agree... if that is all i could get then thats all i could get for 2 weeks..... I would head to north east and maybe spend 4 days in phuket...
Mind you in my money i never budget for a hotel... Thats already paid for or money put aside... As for a credit card..... I have 2... and i earn bugger all money... Not for the rich at all... You can get yourself a credit card.. But just restrain from using it unless you have to..... Mind you i should practice what i preach sometimes
