Angry Theft from baggage at Phuket Airport

Hello fellow Phuket lovers
I have to inform you of a danger in Phuket that unfortunately I have fallen victim to.
I have just recently returned from Phuket (30th Sept to 7th October 2003), my first visit there, and I loved the place. It has been soured somewhat by the theft of my expensive digital camera and all the pictures it contained of my trip there. It was a Sony DSC-S70, worth about $US 1000 and it was taken from my luggage bag, after being checked in at Phuket airport, on my return home. I flew Bangkok airways to Bkk then British Airways to Sydney, Australia. I am most upset at losing all the pictures of my short stay there. I took over 100 pictures (two 64 MB memory sticks worth) of bar girls in Patong, including the beautiful girl I spent 2 days with, Phuket town, the resort where I stayed and the vegetarian festival celebrations which was on while I was there. All gone. I give this advice for everyone traveling through Phuket Airport. Do not pack expensive valuables in your luggage; carry them as hand luggage on the plane. Your luggage may be gone thru and valuables pilfered by dishonest airport staff. I think I know how my bag came to be searched through, and which staff stole the camera, which I can discuss further if people here are interested. Please be careful with your expensive items in Phuket and whatever you do, do not pack them into your luggage, carry it on as hand luggage. Lesson learnt. Ouch.

I agree..

I was lucky it was only my mobile phone that I lost on my first visit there and so I always carry my camera and keys with me. To lose a camera and more importantly the photos would really piss me off !
