Laser tooth whitening

No guys not the usual request about this but rather a report on what i had done yesterday.
The day before i was walking around in my usual drunken mess, i go past soi nam yen dentist and decided it would be a good idea to book myself in for some whitening, the options are as follows:

1 - a 16 day home course of gel and sleeping with this huge shield in my mouth, fcuk that.
2 - Laser surgery, which will take about 1-1.5 hours, sounds nice and easy.

So i have an easy night the night before as i am booked in for 12.30, get there early and we get started, i thought it was never going to end, 1.5 hours on my back with a mask over my face, at one point i decided to start counting (got to 300 at one point and got bored so gave up) as i had nothing else to take my mind off what was going on, and sometimes it was quite sore, not the surgery itself but more of the clips and things used to pin my lips back and keep my tounge down.
After the surgery i was in a lot of pain for quite a few hours (just like having tooth ache), it is now almost 24 hours after finishing and the pain is still present but not so bad as it was all day yesterday, even stopped me from drinking last night, and those who know me will realise that this does not happen regularly.

So to summarise my experience.

1-The dentist was OK, did not speak all that much during the time i was there, they explained that my teeth would be sensative for a while after, major understatement.
2-Results seem to be pretty good, will show them off this afternoon and this evening to the boys to see what they think.
3-I will never go through this again, the pain really was unbearable after it, pretty much always present but then a sharp shooting pain every so often.

These are just my thoughts from what i went through yesterday, perhaps others have been more fortunate than me.

anybody else have experience with this??

Simon

I've had it done 3 times. The first times was years back ithe US when it first came out. The whole procedure was bit like you described,a nd there was one tooth in particular where I got the nasty shooting pains and they had to put a shield over that tooth when the pain got constant and horrible. All in all, no fun, but I didn't have a problem with sensitivity afterwards. And was very pleased with the results.

Since then, I have had it done twice in BKK. No problem at all. The dentist was kinda cute and so were her assistants, so even though it was boring, it wasn't too bad. By then, I knew a little Thai and it was interesting eavesdropping on the covnversation between the girls who assumed i did not speak Thai. Fortunately, they didn't say anything nasty about me.

BTW, in BKK, I had no pain in the tooth that gave me trouble before, and no sensitivity afterwards. All in all, a fairly pleasant experience as far as trips to the dentist go.

In Pattaya the dentist told me that the gel was a much better way to go than laser, I think I will try gel on my next trip.

I had the procedure done 2,5 years ago in Patong.I was told that I was gonna get the nasty "icing"-sensation for about a week...the first week after I didn`t feel a thing, but for over a year afterwards I got that "icing"-sensation in my teeth, both with cold-and hot drinks !!!
Beware that there is 2 types of teeth-colours...the lucky ones have nice white teeth`s that goes bad because of,smoking, red wine etc.,for those laser-whitening is perfect !!
I don`t have those ...so for me I`didnt notice any difference,in fact the plaque-removal procedure I took in the same dental office the year before had a better effect than the laser-whitening !!!

Thanks for the information. This is something I want to do in Thailand but one thing I am very weak with is Tooth-pain. I can handle most other types but tooth pain is a killer.

How much did it cost and has anyone tried the gel option?
