Question About Prices Today
There's been alot of discussion on another thread as to drink prices going up in certain bars.
There's also been mention of bar fine increases & variations too.
Some bm's see this as profiteering......I doubt it is profiteering, more to me like a sign of the times.
I understand that many bm's on here have made countless trips to LOS over the years & hazard a guess....the prices they pay today are the same as the prices they were paying several years ago.
My questions to the senior/experienced/well travelled bm's is...
If you can think back as far as 2002....?
What were you paying for LT...BEER...B/F'S?
Just curious to know if the prices back then are the same/thereabouts as today........Do you see these current rises, as have been mentioned in other posts, a sign of LOS keeping up with the present economic climate?
Is it a case of profiteering?
Or is it a case of some bm's living in the past?
Cheers

60 - 70 baht beer
80 - 100 baht mixed drinks
200 baht BF's 1000 baht max for LT
room rates about the same.. maybe a tiny bit but not much
Flights have nearly doubled for Thai air but we didnt have the budget carriers then.. Petrol also up by something like double.. Hard to remember fuel exact... Food stuffs etc.
Some of the extreme cases like 180 baht breezers seems overload but in general its just price inflation.. As I said in another thread I think its fairly normal for a developing country to have high inflation as it evolves and gets more westernised paying 220 baht for a sandwich (woodys or subway) is just what westerners will pay but compared to locals costs that must seem mad.

Lil, thanks for the feedback.
From what you've shown me, prices have only increased ever so slightly for alcohol.
Airfares/fuel, well yes, they are up too a fair whack.
With yourself being a numbers & money man guru, how long do you give it till the bubble bursts over there & LOS plays a bit of catch up to the western world?

In what way bubble bursts ?? Prices rise to levels that make tourism less apealing ??
Very hard to know if that will happen.. Remember it wasnt particularly cheap here pre 97 for some things.. Asian currency crisis knocked the baht from 25 to the USD overnight..

Tend to agree with LL there. !st time in LOS it was high 40s baht to the pound, next time just under 90 for a short time then tending since to swing between mid 60s to low 70s. So in real terms even with price increases you do tend to get a lot more bang(s) for your pounds nowadays. Try to work out what tourist inflation has done to prices in the Costa's and that will show you why a lot more knuckle scrapers are making their way to man heaven.

I remember I paid a go go-stunner 1000 Baht per night for LT in 1998.
She stayed with me for about two weeks, and I felt like it was the catch of my life. I wonder what the price would be for her company today.
For some of the beer-bars on Bangla it seems like the prices has been the same for years.
LT 1000
Beer 55 - 70
BF 200 - 300

I remember when fuel was 3 or 4 baht/litre, that has to be the largest increased item which funnily enough affects everything.

You won't get LT in BKK for 1000 Baht. 2000 is the standard rate, altho some FLS will negotiate down to 1500; 3000 for the better-looking gogos. 1000 Baht is now the standard ST price in BKK. Many top girls want 1500 to 2000 ST, and some of those girls will not even do LT at any price!

1991-1992:
Thought Singha in beer bar was more 40-50 Baht.
Tuctuc 10-20 Baht per person.
Suzuki jeep on beach road 600-700 Baht
BF Rock hard 400 or 500 B
LT gogo 1500-2000
Live lobster in Beach road seafood restaurants (Savoey and others) 90 Baht/100grams.

Guys, thanks for your feedback & research on my questions.
My thoughts are reaffirmed, as I can see that the usual mongers essentials like beer, accomodation, food & LT have remained the same price or very close to it....for the past several years.
Of course this is great news for all of us.......
I think some bm's have to remember what they pay back home, before having a whinge bout LOS prices.

It's also worth saying that barfines have really gone nowhere in the last ten years or so. In 1997 they were 200/400 (beer bar/go-go bar) and now seem to be 300/500. The bar owners are not fleecing you.

AD, I don't see no TAB costs..5555555555555555
for those not familiar with TAB...it's a legalised Aussie betting agency
Stands for Totalisator Agency Board
AD, would be on a first name basis with the cashiers...

Ummmm well, i have to agree with ya to a certain extent but i also have to disagree with ya... If we are strickly talkin about bkk, yes you are right to a certain extent in saying LT is 2000 - 3000 baht, however i was in Bkk just last month, and will be there again from the 10th - 13th of August (if anyone wants to catch up for a drink) when i was there last month, i was there for two days, got a massage in the afternoon in my hotel room, the lady charged me 1000 baht for ST, then went out to Soi cowboy that night, barfined a girl for 500 baht and LT was 1500baht (maybe she liked me), next night went to pat pong, barfined again for 500 baht, LT was 1000 baht ( but then again it was 1 or 1.30am when i got there after RCA) So i agree but also disagree with ya... However, in Phuket i've never paid more than 1500 baht for LT (she originally asked for 1000 baht, gave her extra 500 for tip as i had just gotten paid)
