Maybe you can try to look for other options, e.g. flights to Kuala Lumpur or Singapore and then head to Phuket. Air Asia begin with new flights next month at very low prices between Thailand and Malaysia.

airlines are starting to bump up the prices now people are flying again, that coupled with the rugby world cup at mo and peak season from now til feb in thialand means you are pretty screwed with bargain prices.as it is i flying to hong kong then bangkok then phuket, cant get on any direct flights to bangkok cos they all full and i work for british airways.
nicke i hoping to get on a flight thursday so hopefully see you friday if i dont get stuck in hong kong or bangkok.

I don't think that Singapore is a good alternative. All flights are full in December. Holidays period and all Singaporian are going to Thailand. Try maybe Dubai with Emirats ... I think you can get a good deal.

I found an Air China flight for 894 Euro to Bangkok then booked separately Bangkok to Phuket for an additional 120 Euro. 8 hour layover in Beijing though.
