AROUND the middle of april is the thai new year holiday SONGKRAN when phuket and pattaya are busy thus the hotel prices can be higher
but if you wait until the end of the month beginning of may hotel prices and flight prices come down .
The weather at that time of year is good also should still be quite a few BMS around at that time of year.
i personally am going late march early april and getting away before songkran.
i have made 25 visits to thailand and 18 of them have been in the months march through may so it must be my fav period of the year !

The arrival of the monsoon season in Phuket is marked by the Songkran water festival - around the 13th April. From that date onwards the weather can be un-reliable to say the least - And, in the 9 years I've lived here, it never fails to amaze me how accurate this date is! The best time to arrive is towards the end of November through until the end March.

Hope this helps

The best time to go to Phuket is RIGHT NOW but on a serious note I'd agree with November - March.

The monsoon season in Phuket is notouriously un-reliable - it always starts and ends at the same time each year, but the breaks between downpours can last from a few hours to several days! If you're lucky you could see no rain at all during a two week holiday...there again it could be a complete wash out

I had the statics in my hand a few months ago, and November and December were exceptionaly wet last year.

Lot of complaints in our hotels, but that is crap, as we cannot make the weather.....

I've only been to Thailand twice and both times were to Chiang Mai for a cricket tournament, which is basically just an excuse to get right into all that the place has to offer.
Any idea when the Phuket Sixes is? I think it's around March time.

Hi Mangwapp,

Think you’d find Phuket rather different than Chiang Mai. For a start Phuket is situated in the wet tropics of the Andaman Sea and has two distinct monsoon seasons. Chiang Mai in the far north has a more Mediterranean feel with the temperature sometimes falling to 0C overnight in January/February – Some years it’s even been known to snow! The exact opposite to Phuket, at this time of the year.
Can’t help with the sixes’ info - but keep an eye on this link to the Phuket gazette events page nearer the time.

Phuket Gazette - online English newspaper for Phuket, upcoming events, event calendar, phuket events, Thailand, with daily news, classified ads, yellow pages, business listings

Hope this helps
