Snakes on Planes...
I went and saw "Snakes on Planes" at the movies yesterday with my girlfriend. The new one with Samuel L. Jackson.
Not a bad movie, I think anyone else would have made a pretty poor movie.
One of the funniest experiences in a movie theater. The pilot says "This plane will go down faster than a Thai ******", all the farang guys in the movie theater are pissing themselves laughing and then all the Thai girls are asking them "what did he just say" which made all the farangs laugh even harder.
Just something I wanted to share. blah blah blah

I was taken to see that by a BG last week. The premise and, to be honest the title, seemed ridiculous, but the movie wasn't half bad. I suppose, given what I'd seen of Thai TV I was surprised by the nudity early in the flight when a couple take to the lavatory for a bit of fun. Also the language was up to strength given the lead actor.
The Thai ****** line didn't elicit that much of a response and I glanced around to see if anyone reacted, but no. Made me wonder if the Thai subtitle used the same phrase or maybe it substituted 'Russian ******' or some such.
Anyway, better than expected and enhanced by the presence of a TG squealing and clinging to you every time a snake popped out of somewhere unexpected.
The day before I had visited the Snake Farm a few blocks south of Siam Square - great half-day experience (you get to see handlers playing with cobras etc. and touch a few non-venomous examples and have a Python draped on your shoulders... would have been more fun taking the TG after seeing SoaP.

You can bet they changed the the words "Thai ******" in the subtitles. When I was in Cambodia, the cable service was great with 92 channels and tons of movies. For whatever reason, maybe because a lot of the stuff was pirated and had inferior sound quality, they showed English subtitles with many of the English movies in addition to the Cambodian subtitles. The translations blew my mind, so much stuff was way off base, not even close to the actual dialogue on they were saying! Watched "Brokeback Mountain", and it was almost like a different movie if you were reading the subtitles, they were so often not remotely like what the actors said!
So they give those translators a lot of leeway, and the translators are not all that good anyway, IMHO. I could never see them translating the phrase "go down faster than a Thai ******" correctly in LOS, which is why the TGs were asking "what did he say." I think it is extremely difficult for them to follow fast dialogue word for word. They read the subtitles, and it is difficult to read subtitles and listen simultaneously as I found out watching TV movies in Cambodia. Especially when the subtitles don't match up with the actual screen dialogue!
BTW, saw the movie. Needless to say, the Thai ****** line went unnoticed here in the US. Just another one of those subtle reflections of how pervasive our culture's negative views of guys who go to LOS has become.
But as you say, the flick is not bad. Lots of action, suspense, and gratuitously gory stuff. One of those movies that you go in expecting it to be so bad that you are surprised that it is actually pretty entertaining, in spite of the gore, and the total predictability of the plot. It is definitely a Samuel Jackson tour de force, but still, all in all, just another airplane disaster movie. Kind of the opposite of "World Trade Center" where a lot was expected, but, with all due respect to those who heroically sacrificed their lives, it did not perhaps live up to all the hype, IMHO.

I was the same, and it is a slightly silly premise and sounds very limited, but if you relax, release all critical faculties and are with someone who gets into the scary bits , it's a laugh.
The spear-gun shot stretches credibility to breaking, but this isn't the real world. Suffice to say Mr J gets into the cargo hold where he finds the gun... it wasn't hand-baggage
How the aircraft gets back on the ground is way beyond that for believability. It requires what the fiction industry calls 'suspension of disbelief'.
Take a TG with a fear of snakes, otherwise wait until it appears on TV.

I read about this film last week in the paper, They didnt let the critics review it and put it straight to cinema, Which would be usually be a bad thing as the only reason they would not want the critics to see it first is because they didnt want the bad review...
So I think I will wait until it comes out on Dvd before I watch it...

This has been talked about on the internet for ages.
A movie that does what it says on the tin.
If you are looking for anything intellectual read the title.
Fun. People like fun.

You definitely do not want to see this film.! Loads of snakes! all kinds of them.
When you see them in this movie, you can really understand why in Western culture, starting with the Garden of Eden story, the devil is often depicted as a snake. Because the snakes in this movie are so incredibly evil looking. Wow! Pure evil!! Very scary.
When you look at these serpents,it is hard to understand why in the Eastern culture, they see them as good or lucky and not as being evil.
