Myanmar? Or the temples of Angkor.
Cheaper than shopping in SIN or HK.

Have a poke around on a Vietnam forum Paul. I'm sure you'll get an idea of the place from there. At least an idea if your girl might like it.

Never mind the hotels- check this out for luxury:
welcome to Emeraude Classic Cruises
Never been on it myself but when I went to Exotissimo Travel in HCM City was introduced to the guy that owns it and it looks pretty cool. Starts at around $245US/night.

Whuakito must have had good weather when he was in HB......I got misty rain both times......so some days couldn't see the mountains right in front of you......

Last time I stayed on a Junk which was quite nice......sharing with an American lassie I met on the way out there......good fun and a beautiful place......but I would defo give that boat Freddy gives a recommendation......if it is anything like the images of the rooms....looks fab!!

Do NOT stay on land......no point....gotta be on a boat

My pick for a beachside chilled out place in Viet is Nha Trang and the islands nearby......a couple of nice luxury places there to kick back for a while....I stayed at te Ana Mandara which was beautiful.....their is also an Evasun if you like those

Wylos has spent a bit of time there too...so he will have an opinion...think he ahd a gal in tow too from memory....

My favourite place however is Hoi An which is a beautiful ancient traditional Viet town on a river and also by the beach....it is truly magical and is a geat place to spend a few days.....has a great traditional market smack dab in te centre of town......not for tourists but for locals......lots of traditional handicrafts....nice restaurants.....a real travelllers place......I just love it.....stayed at the riverside in half way between the beach and the town......beautiful hotel overlooking river and rice paddies....

Another nice place is Dalat the mountainside retreat outside Saigon ....lots of Viet honeymooners and has a cool vibe.....

and Hanoi......another great place and a separate story......yeah I like Viet.....

pic 1 + 3 + 4......Hoi An

pic 2 + 5......Halong Bay

I would do Halong Bay for sure reminds me of Phang na also two nights in Hanoi would be interesting.

Na Trang is a beach city which might not be much differant than Phuket but I was bugged as all the ciclo drivers were all trying to sell me weed.
But this was 8 years ago.

I hear Sierra Leone is quite beautiful this time of year

i do understand this somewhat. i mean if a bg goes to the states and realizes she can work as a stripper and make 200-300usd at the very bottom of the ladder without going with a guy vs 1000baht to go with a guy
i also saw a stat that 33% of thai nationals overstay their visas in US
