Question Best gym(s) in Phuket?

Some advice from you (lucky) expats or locals please:

I am returning to Phuket (after several years absence) for 3-4 weeks in December. I am right into keeping fit at the moment but don't fancy too much work outdoors (the traffic & heat scare me). To save time looking around can you give me some advice on the best gym's in Phuket? Some basic criteria / thoughts:

1. Modern equipment (cardio & weight machines).
2. Air con!
3. Will accept short term / casual membership.
4. Preferably in Patong area: but I'd travel as far as Phuket Town for a real quality gym.
5. I am guessing some of the big hotels may be well equipped: will they let me use if I am not staying there?

I am a member of Fitness First at home (an international "fitness factory": they have a couple in Bangers: some of you may be aware). Anything similar would be perfect.

Many thanks in anticipation.

We had two wellknown gym's in Patong until recently; Patong Gym opposite Star World and another gym (I dont remember the name) close to Sai Nam Yen road. Both are gone due to demolishing activities.

Many hotels have their own gym and I also see Ads in Phuket Gazette for a wellequipped gym somewhere, sorry I cant remeber the location or name.

Thanks Nicke - I'll have a scout around when I get into town.

Any ideas on whether (toursit) numbers are going to be up or down this busy season? Terrorism etc.

Lightbulb Kamala

If u dont mind the 12min tutktuk ride (8min motorcykle ride)
to Kamala, they have a really good gym there, Kamala gym.
1/2-1 mile in on the main roads right side.

It opened a couple of months ago (actually relocated) and most
equipment is brand new.English owner.

And if you are really into it you could rent the apartment on top,
a nice one, and have a privat entrance directly from your apartment
to the gym I think.

I have visited all the gyms on the island and if the ones in Patong
are closed this must be the best option hens the "gyms" in the hotels
are usually some old "multimachine" and perhaps a couple of dumbbells.

Smile Holiday Inn Gym

The gym has changed, since the Burasari wing opened. They now have a lot of new equippment, but you MUST be a hotel guest.

Before you could pay daily memebership, but sadly not any more.
