Elections
Hi
We are travelling to Phuket on the 12th October and I understand Thailand General Elections are to be held on the 14th and 15th October.
Does anyone know what will be open during these days, I heard bars will be closed!
Thanks in advance
Andy

Welcome to the board klita -
The general election (round #) was supposed to be Oct 15th - but fear not - its been scrubbed since they have to nominate a new Election Comission ..... like likely that the general election will be early next year now.
You are right that over elections (the night before up to 10pm the day of an election) ALL alcohol sales are banned.
Have a nice holiday - at least this time you won't have to worry about any 'dry' days.

I have thought about that. It seems a bit funny. Is the purpose to try to keep people sober when voting? Or does it just seem inappropriate that citizens have to much fun during a serious time as an election?
Or is it a fear for people being drunk and disorderly - rioting and such?
Whatever the reason - seems a bit too big brotherly.
I will however be in LOS in october and was relieved to hear that my liver abuse wont be held back by the election

Doesn't seem less big brotherly. But it is a strange world - people, and governments, does the silliest things

To prove my point? I have not said anything about "us" being less strange than the Thais or anyone else.
Don't make my remarks into some sort of thai criticism. From my point of view however - it is a strange law. Being a thai law or a law anywhere else. And that is based on bascic thoughts of individual freedom and human rights.
Or am i not allowed to make remarks on systems in other nations than my own?

Exactly. Even if i thought your remark was a bit...well, childish.
I wrote my first posts in this thread with a sense of humor. You killed that.

I fail to see how that is, but this is not achieving anything, have better things to be doing.

Obviously. Just spare me the "we are all just visitors" speach in the future. It's insulting both for me and the thais.

It is a lousy argument for not having opinions on other countries than your own.
Maybe you and your misses need to think this through at a little higher level before you understand why it is an insult.
Run out of better things to do btw?
