Ask Geir
There are almost as many beauty shops here as bars. The girls in MTB can give you good places.

Thai girl who owns a hairdressers told me that ladyboys are the biggest spenders on feminine beauty products - seems logical really - and I guess one would be more than pleased to discuss girly matters with you. Ladyboys are commonplace in phuket, though you will find a concentration at the bangla road entrance to soi crocodile. Having said that, Crustacian looked well manicured the last time I saw him........................

I did look around the internet at some phuket salons and got some prices on acrylics, but they were all around AU equiv of $65-$70 which is bloody expensive, can get it done over here for about $50, was thought maybe i was lookin in the wrong places, but i guess some things are just more expensive in phuket.. thanks anyways everyone!

I think you are getting bad info. My observation has been that the only things that are more expensive in Thailand than in the US are things that are imported into Thailand from Japan, Europe, or US, such as photographic film, computers, and automobiles. When you are mostly paying for labor, then it is always cheaper!
However, there are always chi-chi places, where people with the big bucks go to get the right ambience, the latest decor, nice furniture, etc., and to have their ass kissed royally while they are getting their nails done or getting a massage.
The places where you get the job done, but with no frills, don't have internet sites, and can't afford to advertise. However, I would be shocked if you couldn't get it done in Phuket for half the price you pay in Oz, or less.

Okay, I don't know about Phuket, but my girlfriend told me that she had got her nails done nicely for 60 Baht in Bangkok last week. She was quite surprised, since she had to pay 250 Baht in Pattaya previously.
Now, I'm no expert in that and I don't think she got a complete acryl treatment, but just to add to JayBee's comment that it should really be cheaper.
(So, now I'm wondering about myself even replying to fingernail threads, I think it's time for me to make up my mind, jump into the cold water and get my butt over to Thailand.)

I was thinking the same thing myself, but have been actually considering getting acrylic nails on my right hand.
I have a friend who is a professional guitar player(flamenco style), and has his nails done with acrylic on his picking hand. I don't play flamenco, but I don't use a guitar pick, either. Picking with my nails tends to break them, and strumming files then down too fast.
I haven't got up my nerve to get the acrylics yet, but was curious what they cost. I sure don't want to pay $50.

Have you considered fingerpicks ? I know they are a bit difficult to master, but guess once you do, have a great effect.

Don't like the feel of fingerpicks. For some reason, it just feels good to get my fingers right on the strings.
Acrylic nails seems like it might be the perfect solution. Like turning your nails into fingerpicks. Picks are plastic, acrylic nails are plastic. Same, same, but better!
