That was over an hour ago... and from New York.

we will probably not find out who will be in charge until Thaksin returns from New York and then the answer will be quickly forthcoming based on what happens to him upon his arrival.

Post from Thai visa:
"
We have just been advised that Thai Army units of unknown purpose have deployed into Patong Beach, Phuket. They appear to be in something less than brigade strength, in APCs; no tanks sighted."

Can anyone confirm this?
BBC Pundit: "Mr Thaksin would be well-advised to invest in some Manhattan real-estate."

Less than a brigade? If the beach katoeys spot them on their turf those soldier boys will be massacred.
MTB webcam still running, which gives the lie to the idea that the Internet is shut, though the stools are on the bar top now (0210H), so night-night everybody. Expect Nicke will be posting soon.

General Sonthi has been called for a late-night audience with the King and he is now on his way to the Palace.

If Sonthi gets the King's support, we'll see military rule at least untll the next election. If not, all bets are off and I have no idea what will happen. The King will in any case be a major peace-keeper in the coming transition.

That or Liverpool FC.
Apparantly hes worth a lot of millions after his sale of telecoms company to singaporeans. Never going to go down well in a third world country.
Looks like his time is up.
Lets hope Mr Bush keeps out, and this should clear up sooner rather than later, especially for us tourists, hopefully

www.thaigov.go.th has just died and it's not a traffic problem, looks like content has been removed ("Server Error in '/' Application").

Nothing more to happen until a royal address tomorrow, I expect. So it's off to bed for me. Hope I wake up in a democracy.

and why for any sane reason at all would we, the US, get involved in Thailand. Never had a problem there.
Sorry but the US is not the root of all problems in the world.
