Weather

I will be coming to Phuket on vacation October 6 to 10, 2006. I've been watching the weather and it looks like it's been raining every day forever. What do you think? Will I have a rainy vacation? I hope not.

It's the tropics. It rains. Next time go between November and April when it is drier. It will still rain then.

Can never be absolute especially over such a short period.. Though hopefully the really rainy season should be tailing off.. It was hot today with powerful sun.

Though watch these storm systems kicking into vietnam now.. Should all be over by your time but storm predictions are coming for the next few days out.

Can't say that I have noticed the weather much on Phuket (except getting caught in a couple of thunderstorms, and then made a party out of it, in front of the 7/11!!! ) Always managed to get whatever I wanted done in between showers. Got caught in a bars on occasion but that was no hardship!!!!

Coming here a lot I always liked the rainy season as it cooled things down, cleaned the mud off the roads and generally freshens things up. However now living here, I have started to feel really sorry for the guys on holiday who get the 'wrong' two weeks and it almost seems to go in 2 week cycles, of clouds and rain and then 10 days or so of really nice sunny weather. I think we are getting the edge of Cyclone Sid or Typhoon Tom or whoever and been pretty windy and rainy for the last few days, look on the bright side at least it is never cold!!!

Even though I do not trust the weatherman much, the 10 forecast looks pretty grim.

Understanding Thailand

Thanks for all your info. It sounds like I may get wet a few times, but that can be part of the adventure. I'll just make life exciting in thunderstorms and not. I only hope I still get the chance to go on an elephant trek, go white water rafting, see the monkeys pick coconuts and so some snorkling. Maybe I can do that between storms, and if I get wet in the process, that's ok too. I'm just gonna have fun. At my age (62) I will take "fun" anyway I can find it.

Not when you've got a tropical cyclone sitting out there, but now that it has made landfall on the east coast of India, things may improve.

Just seen the Al Gore film, "An Inconvenient Truth". A city in India last year(?) got about 850mm in 24 hours(can't remember if it was 34 or 37 inches).

We have empty dams here in Sydney, water shortages are getting worse and worse, anyone wanna start a business importing LOS rain-water. Might be a good way to claim flights to LOS back as a business expense

.

The man who used to be the next president of the U S of A probably said
950 mm in Mumbai (Bombay )all down in 24 hours...due to extreme heavy
s.w. monsoon and a killer cyclone further south...I know have to leave from
the the anchorage and hit the Arabian Sea due to heavy swells and dredging
of anchor
