questions from a newcomer

G'day all new to this forum so hope this is in the right place !
Me and the missus are travelling to Phuket in 3 weeks and staying at the Diamond cottage resort & spa in Kata has anyone on here any info about the place and what its like ? this is our first trip to Thailand and don't want to end up in somewhere that is feral also would appreciate any info on costs of public transport ie bus fares from Kata to Phuket town and other locations on the island.
one more question and I will shut up Is handrolling tobacco available in Phuket and if so how much a 50gram pouch ? I am a lifelong rollie man and can't stand tailor made smokes my baccy of choice is Drum

Well as nobody has answered yet.....l will give u my limited knowledge of Kata.

Will be still a bit quiet in that area.....getting busier by the day (Xmas coming)....Your Hotel looks great and Kata has a lovely little beach......l don't think you will be wanting to go to Phuket Town, rather Patong (Main area for Nightlife, Restauarnats & Shopping)....Tuk Tuk will cost you approx 300 baht each way ($11AUD)

In regards to your question about tobacco....l don't really know.....but l would say it would be readily available given the number of ex pats on the island.

Yes Diamond cottage is very nice ... may I say luxurious (certainly not feral) with a good pool, bar, restaurant & room service.Though it isn't girl friendly - but that shouldn't concern you.
The hotel is situated on a hill, so everything is an easy walk downhill. You have the choice of two beaches Karon & Kata plus plenty of shops, bars & restaurants etc.

Yeah, Patong is the go .... pay the money & catch a tuk tuk. Bus is cheaper but it will take you the long way around probably via Phuket Town, about an hour ... good for sightseeing ??

Tobacco ... I don't smoke!.. but the tailor mades smell like rollies.

You can buy baccy here on the island in the cigar shops and also in the booze sections of the Ocean shopping centres.I don't know if they stock Drum.

Alternately you could bring in a supply for yourself from the duty free in Oz.

I always think it's funny when people book somewhere and then ask what it's like.........probably best to do that before you book LOL

Seriously , have a good time. Yeah, Phuket town not a great deal to do / see. Get to Patong

there is a public bus service that runs every half hour steve
it starts off in patong and goes past your resort to phuket town
i used it a few months back and its only 20bht each way
i don,t think it runs after about 6-30 pm though

ask in the hotel they might know where the bus stop is situated

They do stock Drum in the Big One normally, but they were out of stock last night when I looked.

I dunno about DRUM or even if they sell it but if i remember correctly i got duty free tobacco in Bangkok(coming home).Think i paid about 500baht for five packs Golden virginia(50g pouches)........
