A question for Nicke!!
I am not sure how the other BM's feel about it, but as a relative newbie to the forum, I would like to ask Nicke how this forum came about?
Did you come up with the idea yourself or was it suggested to you by some-one from Phuket-info(or the like)?
What did you hope to get out of it?
What sort of people did you hope to attract?
Did you expect that it would become as successful as it is?
Did you expect to have as much input (on a daily basis) as you do now?

Sorry, if I appear to be a bit too nosey, but I was watching a program on TV last night about Rags to Riches stories and one thing they all had in common was that those people enjoyed what they were doing.(Too bad I can't make a living out of mongering!)
Is it the same for you or more of a business thing?
Thanks for your patience.

As I liked internet and had done some basic websites and programming in the past so it was naturally for me to create a Phuket website when I moved down here. I had no plans or expectations at all.

From the beginning I had a basic message board script here where everyone could write whatever they wanted anonymously, which resulted in a lot of flamings, and that was he main reason I bought a proper forum software when they become available. However, I run a BBS with few incoming lines for many years when I was younger, around 88-92 and have been using similar systems on internet since 1994.

Its same for the webcam which I had in MTB since 2001, a fun thing, but I got the idea from pattaya live cams website in that case.

interesting Q+A's boys....

I guess everyone has their own story on how they started on the board......I actually went to MTB a couple of years ago with some dive mates before I knew it existed.....and then forgot about it again until I was doing some research on diving and it popped up on google..........then it all dropped into place.....

Be interesting to know others stories on how they joined up too......

Nicke, I often have to give talks and presentations on the subject of customer relationship management, or CRM as it's called. One of the most effective ways to 'bond' with your customers is to provide a top class 'sticky' website/forum which people genuinely enjoy, get real value from and keep coming back to. I know you didn't start this forum for any commercial gain at all, you just wanted to do it to provide a useful service. Nevertheless, in CRM terms, you've been incredibly successful. Congratulations!

If you did want to make some extra bucks out of it, you could probably attract some really big advertisers now, with the traffic you get. Personally, I wouldn't mind - I'd be delighted to see you make some well deserved extra income. And one of the positives of it is that the advertising content could be restricted only to things that are really relevant and useful to BMs - for instance, airlines offering special deals to LOS.

Of course, there is the possibility that BMs might feel that it would be 'selling out' - in the same way that the recent sale of Youtube caused an outcry from some regular users (although many more sent best wishes and good luck). Interesting point. Any comments on that from anyone? It might be useful for Nicke to know how people would feel about it!

The site already carries some discreet advertising/sponsorships and if you look to the right of screen you will see that there is an advertisement for advertising!

I can't remember how I stumbled across this site. Probably Google. Even though I've been a member for 2+ years, it has only been recently that I have ramped up my posting. With my next trip to PHK imminent, I like to post. If I do make it to MTB, it would be nice if someone at least has a vague recollection of my user name

But it is hard for me to come to this site after getting home, because of the post-LOS blues.
