May as well add my 2 satang (I usually do lets face it )
Went and tried a couple, nice and clean with little to no nasty after taste.. But for me personally it had a bit more of a yeasty or hops'ey taste than I would really rave over.. I can see how those that like thier beers natural would like this and just my own personal preference but I like something a bit more 'clean' pils type beer.
All in all the bintang in bali was ideal for my taste (again I think thats a carlsberg under license or carlsberg assisted brewery) but considering it was the bulk cheap beer for indo I thought it great.
So nice beer, worth a try and always good to increase selection.. But wont be getting me off the gin.. Agree with T man that the San Mig light is probably the cleanest tasting beer sold here..

No, it will be the same amount for you to drink I'm afraid. Simple supply and demand rules. Less demand, less production. More demand, more production. In reality, you should want more people to drink Beer Lao so the fixed costs can be amortized over a higher production base, resulting in lower prices on a per unit cost play. But then again, TIT, who really knows.....

Chiang Mai is the next destination for Beerlao. The distributor/impoter already sent somebody there (along with Beerlao) to visit bar and restaurant owners and ask them cool the beer and try it.
As of now, no bar or pub shows big interest in selling Beerlao. Big three beers are alreay sold so well for them they may not want to make a risk with litle name like Beerlao. Many more bars to be visited, and hope we'll find some bars willing to sell Beerlao.
The distributor is arranging first shipment of Beerlao to Chiang Mai. So Beerlao will be available in Chiang Mai soon.

I'm sitting here at Faulty Towers having my first Beer Lao, whilst I'm waiting for my meal.........I'm lucky Gollum aint here either!
Gotta say I'm impressed & can see what the hype's been all about.
Goes down easy (like some girls I know).55555........Not gassy either.
Gonna be hard to stop at just one.
BTW.....It's 5% alcohol & a 330ml bottle.
I wonder if Crusty will notice if he's missing 1 Beer Lao stubby holder?

For research purposes, can someone drink 20 of these in one night and report back on the quality of hangover?

My part in this research conducted last night ....
After...
6 San Mig Lights
~6 Heineken (San Mig ran out and sort of lost count)
~2 Chang
~1 Archer
then to Faulty Towers to sample my first Beer Lao (Gollum looked like he was about to drink the place dry).
3 Beer Lao - good clean taste - even after being fairly pi$$ed - need to try when not had copious amounts of other beers already.
off to MTB - think went back on San Mig (2)
off to Champagne - more San Mig and JD/cokes - got no idea how many
home at 5AM - woke up 2PM ... hangover yes, no headache even after all that mixing, so looks like Beer Lao is 'clean'.

The things you do in the name of research ... off to Angeles for a comprehensive survey of the nightlife, major drinking binges to test the hangover properties of the various beers available in Phuket ... let's hope no-one wants to know anything about Soi Paradise. Gollum claims to know some of these "ladies", so that might help if K1 finally says no to one of your projects.

Beer Lao is not bad, it has be to cold. Today I had my beer lao and then I went talking to some people and when I get back it was warm, dont taste good at all. So rule nr 1 is keep it cold. When cold it is excellent beer.
San Mig Lite is also a good beer in my opinion.

Sounds crazy but, although we don't like it that way, Lao can be drunk warm. Its made that way due to the lack of refrigeration in Laos. Not to my taste but doable at a push. MY 1, 2, 3 choice is now Loa, followed by San Mig, followed by Tiger. if faced with Singha I'd rather drink piss!!

We've done a lot of experiment on Beerlao. I'd like to share our findings from our years of experience in Beerlao and what what people told me about Beerlao past few years.
1. Beerlao has to be cold. Beerlao will have special taste when it is cold. If it's not cold, there is more chance that its taste will go ugly. I'd say is nothing if it's not cold.
2. The longer you cool the beer, the better taste it has. We've done a lot of experiments on this scenerio. Beerlao will give you delicious taste after you cool it long enough. It's great if you can cool it overnight before serving to customers. We tested the beer that is cooled for 30 min, 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 10, 12, 24, 48 hrs. We give this beer test to a number people who have and who don't have experience in drinking beer. Almost all people said that Beerlao that is cooled more than 24 hrs was great. Of course, it's a matter of personal preference. From our experience, don't be rush in drinking the Beerlao. After you receive it, put it in your refrigerator for one night before drinking or selling it. You can try this yourself and you will notice the differences.
3. It's bad if Beerlao exposes to the Sun. Temperature and sunlight will destroy Beerlao taste. If you drink Beerlao that has been put in sunlight for some time, you may feel that the beer is not fresh.
4. Once Beerlao is cooled, it has to remain cold all the time until it is drank. The taste of Beerlao will not be impressive if you cool the beer and you let it go back to normal temperature agin.
5. In theory, the age of Beerlao is 2 years but I never taste 2 year-old Beerlao, don't what know its taste is like. Practically, Beerlao remain drinkable for 1 year after it is brewed but its freshness remain in first 3-4 months, say 100-120 days. So, always check mfg date on the bottle before giving to the customers. However, this is not always true. We used to drink Beerlao 7 months old and it had supurb taste. Mostly, fresh Beerlao is beter.
6. If you order a bottle of Beerlao, don't open is for a long time. Some people want to enjoy the moment while having the beer. For me, the best time to enjoy the freshness and unique taste of Beelao is first 10 minutes or at most 15 minutes. After that the beer will get cold and exposed to more oxygen, it will not be delicious as just opened. This may be the same for all beers, but I think that if we open all beers in the same time and it them warm up, Beerlao will be the first one that get bitter.
7. There is another thing we have to accept. Beerlao doesn't taste the same in every bottle, especially Beerlao bottles from different brewed date tend to have diffent taste. We all agree that Lao Brewery has high quality ingradients and many of us think that the taste of Beerlao is great, but it's true that Beerlao in different lots may not have same taste. It may have something to do with brewing process but we can't say much about that. It's safe to say that we're not certain about the causes but this issue does happen.
cheers,

wow you really know your beerlao.
the way beer tastes is down to manufacturing process, ingredients, and presentation.
ingredients is the big problem due to the uniformity of the barley differing from batch to batch wildly. breweries go to a great deal of time and trouble attempting to make their beer taste the same from batch to batch. it really requires a mass of scientific and chemical knowledge to `iron out` the differences in barley quality.
maybe beer lao dont have this expertise so the taste differs from brew to brew. doesnt bother me, i like these little suprises.
I had some down at faulty`s. it is very `clean`, dry, ideal i think for this climate.

Just to expand on my comments..
Had a couple more since then.. These have been much colder and they are right.. Icey cold sharpens the taste, gets rid of some of the malt / yeasty taste I wasnt as keen on. Much crisper.
