Tourists to Get Educating in Being Polite!
Thailand's Ministry of Culture will distribute a handbook on Thai manners and 10 'Do's and Don'ts' in Thailand to foreign tourists to enable the visitors to understand and avoid doing things considered taboo in the kingdom, according to Minister of Culture Khunying Khaisri Sri-arun.

I think it is more meant to general things like kissing in the streets, not touching a monk, etc.
But the barlife, is difficult to "educate". I still hate it when drunken fellows, make a girl "loose her face" in front of everybody, or behave in such a disgracious way, only because he thinks, she must forfil every weird fantasy, only because he pays.

this may be difficult recall while in places like pattaya and phuket, but good idea to have when visiting such places as temples, shines etc.
don't know how my manners can get any better/worse than they already are though

Not only manners...is required to be taught....
I was out snorkeling around Ko lanta...yesterday, and we have found a good spoot...lots of Coral..big clams and abundance of fish, was even chased by a trigger hehe. There where also barracudas and small ref sharks, and parrot fish and so on, good visibility and so on. along comes this boat filled with japanese tourists, and i mean alot of them, around 40 or so..these halvfbrained nimbwits, cannot swim, but get into the water nonetheless, scare all the fish away, throw trash all over...but that is not the worst...as i said the coral here almost went to the surface, and these morons, stands on the big brain corals, i was so in shock, that i nearly drowned. Within minutes the whole area has 0 visibility, because coral pieces are clouding the sea. I try to explain to a fat japanese teenager, what he is doing no response, dont think he could speak english, and my handsigns didnt help either. I try to speak to the pilot of my speedboat, and he explains the situation to the pilot of the japanese tourist vessel.....big mistake. within minutes the horde from nippon enters their boat, and sails 200 meter longer alongside the cliff, and does the same mistake all over again....at that time i had been snorkeling in the most prestine still waters for over 7 hours, and i had chatered the boat to around 1800 hours..Im so depressed when i look at their brutal rape of the reef, that i only want to go home and drink some beer, which i do....in my drunkeness i make a a plan i which most of japan is destroyed...but alas only in the dreams  Well today is Kings birthday, and i think i will go to the temple and pray for my sins...have fun out there.

Exactly the same horror story over on Coral Island and also always Japanese (possibly korean) big groups..
Cant swim wade out or with life jacket type things then stand on the reef.. Totally wrecking anything thats in close or shallow..

Can't imagine this will help any, if you are of the right mind then the don'ts mostly go without saying. It's the drunken obnoxious pricks that are the problem and I'm ashamed to say a large number are from the UK

Its not just the drunks.. Some people simply forget how to behave politely and with the bar scene around cant seem to realize that not every girl is a ******..
Was passing along on beach Rd.. There was a young girl trying to pass out flyers.. You could see she was shy and a bit embarrassed to be pushing and interrupting people.. She was dressed conservatively with a dress down below the knee and no cleavage or anything.. 2 guys walking.. She tried to push a flyer on them.. "please take.. etc" he turns around and loudly "how about I take you then.. Take you.. Take you" in a voice everyone can hear.. She turned bright red, and grimaced a smile and tried to then avoid him but hes stopped in front of her repeating himself laughing like hes the funniest guy in the world.. Now OK so its not the worst thing anyone has done.. But hes there thinking hes Mr Comedy while embarrassing the hell out of some young mid teen girl, making her out to be on the market.. Would he do that back home ?? Would he proposition some teenage flyer girl in his home town loudly and them keep at it..

Maybe its just me being intolerant.. Maybe its the high season.. But its things like this that make Thais think farangs are asses..
Sat in a fast food joint at about 1 or 2 last night (I am not proud of it.. I was hungry..) As it was bars closed there were quite a few FL's hanging around and a couple of tables over from me 2 old, badly dressed, guys have 2 girls sat across from them.. Conversation was really strained with lots of silence (I was eating not earwigging) and everyone seemed uncomfortable without 'buy me dlink' jenga and connect 4 tools of the trade.. Fair play the girls are gamely trying to make some rapport going, and said (could she spell it out) me no hab boyfliend, you hab ?? etc.. After making the obvious confused joke of "no I dont have boyfriend" (which went straight over her head) he decided to announce that yes he had "many many many girlfriend".. For the record this was from grey combover, beer gut, socks and sandals, bit of a personality deficiency.. Felt like piping up 'sure you do buddy.. sure you do' but what the hell.. Thier business and not mine and who am I to judge.. Not really about being polite just about how some people seem to lack the social skills.

The poor ticket girls both being southern muslims, with scarfs, didnt know what to do about it, they wouldnt aproach them as they where very embarrased. I caught the situation, and politly asked the girls to cover up so we could get moving..got some unsavery answer back, taught, well let the captain handle it..he promptly put both of them off sjip on the pier, guess it serves them right.

Will this pamphlet be published in Thai?
The behavior of the Thais in tourist areas does little to encourage politeness from the tourists. If a farang woman takes off her top, the Thai guys stare with obvious enjoyment. I see Thais breaking the do's and don'ts all the time, and many in the tourist areas say terrible things when they think farangs can't understand the language. Honestly, it's gotten to a point where if someone is polite, it's a big surprise and my wife and I talk about it for the rest of the day.

Think i made only 2 gaffs on my previous visits that i know of, its the cultural differences that take some getting used too.
Arms full of shopping i wanted something on the bottom shelf in the Big C, pointed at it with my foot to the gf as she couldnt understand what i was on about.  And a dropped note in the hotel, pinned it with foot on floor in front of gf, just instinct kicking in but still a
