Would be cheaper to take out family option. Maybe a BM here has insured children separately, but I think if you wanted to take out indidual policy you will need to contact insurer direct.

Depends on the level of cover you want, but yes that would make sense.
Maybe she can get very reasonable medical/life cover through her bank - BKK Bank, Kasikorn offer Thai standard cover at good cost. For higher level care then Bupa, Blue Cross you can look into - maybe better let her do the inquiring to save the farang premium.

My GF has got insurance with BUPA in Phuket Town, she added her kids to her own policy for about 5,000 bt each I think, but there are all kinds of add on policies for kids with all different prices depending on how good the cover is. BUPA office is very near the bus station in Phuket town,on the other side of the road.
Another insurance company is AIA but I personally have found BUPA to be more farang friendly.

Paulie,
Gone through this myself.
I know an agent/broker, in Phuket town. He's Swedish/Thai...speaks both, (plus english) fluently. (Raised in LOS)
He can set you up with anything you may need, insurance wise. He is a licensed broker, and has many companies and options available.
I'm sure, he'd be glad to meet with you, in February and discuss the many possibilities.
PM me, if you'd like some info...
Pablo

Bupa give 10% discount for family members, but has to be done same time as you renew your own. I will add Ead and Nathalie next time I renew. (On their recommendation)
Another thing I heard from a BM, he used Phuket International Hospital in one case and without insurance, his gf was in bad shape and needed attention and it was emergency but they did nothing until they received money from him. So her health was at risk while waiting for the transfer of money was done from Europe and they had it in their hand.
I think its bad, what I have heard about Bangkok Phuket Hospital you just pay AFTER the treatments when you check out. It is also my own experience of using BPH, I never paid upfront, only when checking out.
Would be a shame if someone died just because waiting for money to arrive.

Having had far too much experience with every hospital on the island, they all want assurance that someone is footing the bill.. If its a farang they steam on ahead assuming someone will pay, if its a thai they want to see where is the farang or who is paying and can they..
With me I may have had to let them swipe a CC first but cant remember.. After paying a few 100k bills they then realized I was good for it and only billed at leaving..
I can see however if a Thai person was arriving, injured, with the farang not with her at arrival that they then get worried.. Also as with Wylos's injury, if they are unsure about your insurance they put you in a crummy ward style room, as soon as I saw it I bullied them into moving him to the nice (expensive) rooms and pushed them to claim for him, they were looking for the easiest route out and marc was in that spun out post accident mood, I dont think he even knew they had private style rooms.
