Jungceylon - Grand opening today
I went and had a look, its looks very nice and the fountain/sound/light show was pretty good. Also saw Burger King, and KFC among others will open soon. Carre Four is open already and it is a very good addition to Patong, no need to go to Phuket Town anymore.
At the moment there is almost no shops open yet, but the place is huge and there will be a lot of shops in the future.

Nicke,
I posted and deleted a duplicate thread as I did not see your excellent report. I was there today and agree with you. This changes the whole dynamics of a trip to Patong. What are the Tuk Tuk cnuts going to do without thier 600 baht round trips to Big C?

The only problem I can think of is that the traffic in Patong will be even worse, I hope they speed up teh work to finish the new road trough Patong. Only the short part from Sai nam Yen to Jungceylon is paved now. When finished, will go through Patong from North to South.

Ok, I did that for you. They announced this project in Nov 2003 and estimated it to finish in about one year, it was later said April 2005 and then November 2005.
So, after 3 years it is finally here.

And parking which is already really ugly. Is the underground parking area open already? Is there a charge?

Yeah the Bangla traffic lights blocked through to the JC entrance.. They need to sort that ASAP as it will make it nasty..

Underground parking is open but I drive a chevvy pick up with a rooh rack and this was too tall a vehicle to get into the underground car park, had to use the outside one near the Carrefour entrance. Met up with half the MTB girls today whilst walking round and checking things out, was much bigger than I imagined there must be close on 500 shop units, for bars, restaurants, shops and nik a nak stally things. Good area underground for arts and crafts and antiques.
Mark my words................'This will change the face of Patong', mongers get in now while it lasts cos it will not be the same here in a couple or so years.
Also want to make sure no one ever visits the new Pizza Restaurant on the front....NEVER GO TO THE NEW PIZZA RESTARANT......we made the mistake of going today, ordered their large which is called regular, it is 210 baht and the size of a small side plate, feck knows how little the small size was. The boys ordered cokes I had a sprite, their drinks came in glasses my in a can, I asked for a glass and was refused as they said sprite only comes in a can???? politely asked 'may I have a glass do not want to drink out of a can', nope and from now on I cannot undertand anything else you ask of me!!!!

So, at last it has opened!
Thanks for that report Nicke!
Will be nice with a place to stroll in cool airconditioned comfort when I arrive there during the humid and sweltering heat of april!
Any sign of a Thai style foodstalls market in there?
You know with lot of small foodstalls selling different Thai delicacies for 20-30 baht a dish, using coupons or cards, similar to second floor in the new freshmarket "Baan Zaan", but with the comfort of airconditioning!?
Usually the big department stores will have one, are there any in Carrefour?
Another great thing with these shopping centres is that they also works as a magnet on all the bargirls and not to forget the girls working in all the shops in there, making it a great place to make new acquaintancies and collect some phone numbers for future fun!

I also had that in mind, its bigger than you first imagined it to be, it's huge. Will be nice to see in a month or so when all the shops are open.

Just one more note, I forgot to mention in my first post. The fountain/light/sound show is everyday at 19:00 and 21:00.
The show is impressive.
At the moment Jungceylon close at 21:00 but will be midnight later on.

We walked through Jungleceylon 2 weeks ago when we were there waiting on it opening, it certainly looked impressive half built!
Glad to hear its open, will be a great boost to Patong.

Kittas - thanks for the info - I would guess you are somehow connected with Jungceylon- a brief intro would be nice but anyway welcome to the board.
Parking - this is what I really care about at the moment - space for 2000 cars but they closed the car park at midnight, so at the moment this is not a option if you are partying. Currently there is NO charge - I dont mind paying a nominal charge for decent secure parking with security ... I hope they make the carpark 24 hours. When I recce'd at 3AM last night the main entrance was barriered off and tuk-tuks were completly blocking access.
The complex - at the moment not much open and was dissapointed that even Carrefour closed at 9.00pm. Food Court is there and looks like some nice local food - was mostly Thai's eating there - so a good sign.
Perhaps it will take another year to really get going strong, but good at last its open!
IJ - no cinima yet - see Kattas post says Feb '07 for this.

All I can say is that I am as glad as a pig in shit that I dont have to get in out of Patong anymore with montrosity there now. Traffic will be murder, and they will fix it in a typical Thai way. Patong is not designed to cater for the influx of traffic that this thing will attract.

I hate to agree but you have nailed it Steve.. Forward planning is not a Thai trait...
They HAVE to get this main road linkage happening in the next year.. I have been using it to short cut even as a dirt rd.. high season is clear on the roads..
Smart money would be looking at securing long leases on the property that will be along that now dirt track.. I heard that galaxy has relocated to roadside on what will eventually / soon be the new artery..

Very surprised that haven't already made the carparks 24hour with maybe a 20baht charge after 10pm. Would be a good earner. Relieve the nightmare of Soi Sansabai traffic at night too.

Better if they had some sort of valet and they would bring the car up for you. Especially if you could call ahead.

Not sure about a Sino (Chinese?) Phuket zone. Are there that many Chinese there?
Glad to see a cinema at last for the wet season.

Chinese massage palours.
Chinese resturants.
Chinese tours.
Basically they keep their business within Chinese community .. they do go to some shows in patong (Muay Thai, Moulin Rouge, Simon Caberet etc) but are herded back on buses at around 8pm before the farangs come out en masse.

More pics taken this afternoon.
Tip re Carrefour : if there are queues at the checkouts on the lower floor go up to the 2nd level. Quieter up there and you get out far quicker

Another tip re Carrefour : keep circling the fresh food area and pretty girls will keep shoving samples down your throat...could end up with a whole meal for free
