Taiwan Earthquake..internet???
I received an advisory email, from ThaiVisa...with a headline that read,
"Taiwan earthquake cut some internet lines".
I've been unable to logon to their site. I am able to get this "Phuket" site, as well as others.
Also, I'm unable to place any phone calls, into Thailand?
GF calls me, then becomes disconnected.
Very strange, indeed....
Any ideas?????

Its FLAG (fiber optic link around the globe) cables undersea..
They are scrambling a cable repair ship but says it could be a couple of weeks of bad connections..
Made worse as Thai ISP's use the cheapest routing (LCR lowest cost routing).. Also Thai ISP's seem to be traffic shaping and throttling ports in odd ways.. Discussion on ThaiVisa if you can get it..
Traffic is being routed the long way (sing india Europe US according to some traceroutes I have done) but obviously massive latency, lots of packet loss, etc..

Thanks LIL.
I'm unable to get onto ThaiVisa website...from USA.
Wonder, if this is also effecting telephone calls, from here? (probably, underwater cables)
I just googled some news...and I guess, I answered my own question.

Internet has sucked all day. If I can connect, then it is normal speed. Other than that it is totally down.
Google is out.
Effecting both my TT&T/Ji-Net and CAT ASDL lines.

Yep been told the same, mainly due from the Earthquake. Here at work we look after most of Asia Paciffic Region, and major issue with AT&T for us. Internet very hit and miss.

I see Nickie has added ta news tread about the comms issues, we have been updated that 9 cables require repairing and could take a while.
They are trying to sort out the routing of the traffic...looks like the disruption will continue for a little while.

If anyone is still having trouble connecting to sites, try reseting your router/modem and system. One of my connections was caching old DNS info and a reset fixed the problem. Can fully connect on TT&T/Ji-Net again.

Is it super slow for everyone else today? Maybe now everyone is back at work and Thailand still isn't running at 100% capacity. Hope they get those lines fixed soon.

Would be interesting to see how they repaired this cable. I would image they pulled it up from the seabed and repaired it on the ship.

That is exactly what they do...I have a friend working for a cable layer....they are out 6 months at the time in the pacific, based out of somewhere in China...think the company is owned by Maersk.
