One way traffic in Patong

Patong beach road and Second Road are set to go one way starting next week. One area completely overlooked in this plan is the effect on pedestrians. Anyone who has ever been to Pattaya can attest that these one way streets become Formula One Race courses with unbelievably reckless high speed antics by the local lads on thier little rice rockets. Average 2-3 pedestrians hit per week in Patters. I predict mayhem for anyone trying to walk across those streets in Patong. Fatalities are not unheard of. Please be careful and expect the unexpected.

Cool Good warning

It would be great if the municipality would install several overhead walkways for the busy areas.

It has become obvious over time that pedestrians really do not count in Thailand. I suspect the thinking goes that only poor people walk; nobody in their right mind would walk when they can ride. This is why Thais seem to park inches from their destination, denying the footpath, where there is one, to pedestrians. Also, poor people vote for whoever is paying them and crazy people don't vote.

Yeah this is worrying. When the traffic was 2 way, i had to ask tuk tuks to slow down so my grandad can cross the road.

It's gonna be much harder when it's one way for good.

How long does this trial run?

I understand that the new one way system in Patong is for cars only but if it is sucessful then the following week motor-cycles and the bigger trucks will adopt it !!!!!

Don't think you will race round Patong's one way, not with all the tuk tuks etc blocking most of your progression.

If wrong, you will just have to cross at the traffic lights or do what pedestrians do now and just walk out oblivious to traffic, least you only have to look one way.

That's a very good question, if you make one way traffic it must apply to all types of vehicles, and that means anything on wheels, but TIT.

He was joking. He means trucks will continue to drive the same way for one week, then also change.
