had this loads of times made really well in bangkok and changmai but cannot find anybody, foodstall or restaurant that does a decent one in patong.
this to me is proper drinking food to be eaten on the street between bars.
i know of alot of stalls in patong where you can get almost anything on a stick but not phad thai ,any ideas for when i hit town in 12 days time?

Why do you want to eat phad thai on a stick??? That will be very difficult to eat. Don't you prefer it served on a plate?

Like you, I also love Phad Thai and especially with chicken. My GF took me to one of those small restaurants if you walk from Bangla down a soi where the Tiger complex is on your left side. At the end of that you can turn right towards Rat-U-Tit road and it was the little restaurant right on the corner. Sorry, I forgot the name of that place. I must say it was quite good in my opinion. My GF had a word with one of the waiters there, as we didn't see it on the menu, but they made it anyway. The picture of my avatar was made in that restaurant.

Maybe this helps you a bit further. Success Steve.

my gf eats it quite regularly, it's served up in/outside markets which would be mainly for Thai's.

The best Phad Thai's are the ones that are cooked on the big hotplates as opposed to wok's. In patong, there's a big fat guy who cooks a decent one, up by the banks on Rat-u-thit near to the language school, but not seen anyone close or on Bangla doing the same

The Phad Thai / Hoi Thod guy up towards the post office (where the old 7/11 or CAT offices are) in the evening can make a good mussels one.. Also up Sai Nam yen opposite the little market soi just after the TOT offices.. Thats an OK one..

Bit greasy for me..

Was told that Tavern on the Hill made a good un but I tend to eat ferang if I am up there...

I find the hotplates guys are fine, if it comes out of a wok invariably they are just adding more of everything with every order which is why they just end up a greasy mush.....would rather go without

I'll admit I'm getting a bit like that recently. I'd normally eat pretty much anywhere but now if the regular street vendors are not about I'll leave it.

One downside of not being in Patong these days is the lack of choice of noodles/street food. I really notice when I am back in Patong and see all the food everywhere at all hours

had phad thai at this place that is just about 300 meters before turning left into the airport complex. the small shop is on the corner of the soi with the main road. cooked by an old lady and someone had told me that she had been selling phad thai for the past 30+ years. if time permitting, try it on arrival or prior departure. cheers.

The best phad thai I have had in Patong is at a street vendor that sets up right in front of the Honda dealership (heading out of Patong, left side, just before the stoplight/right turn on your way to Karon/Kata).

However, he is only open at night when the Honda shop is closed. 30 baht I think.

Cheers,
Robaht

Phad thai is (egg or batter) fried noodles with (depending on seller) prawns, tofu, squid, mussels, mixed in with beansprouts and banana leafy bits.. Garnished with the usual chilli powder, sugar, lime juice, crushed peanuts, etc.

When its great its delicious but it can easily be either greasy or a glutinous lump of noodle.. Due to its non spicy content it tends to be very popular with tourists sampling street food as its not going to hit you like a spicy tom yum or something.

Agree that he can be a bit much, but I think he also deserves alot of credit for hit 'Fifteen' project, bringing in homeless kids and helping them to obtain a marketable skill.

And then there is the school meals project he kicked off, highlighting how bad the food is for the kids at school, and actually trying to raise some awareness and make some changes, albeit with limited success so far.

You could say it's all an ego trip for him, but he's out there doing it with results rather than just talking shite like the govt do about similar initiatives.

I eat sometimes in the evening/night at the street vendor outside Ayudhya bank, between paradise and bangla.

Also like hoei thaawt, used to be available where they sell phat thai.
