Please HELP me !!
Hello everybody,
I am just back home today from Phuket and I met my girlfriend again, it was very nice to see her again, but now I have a problem and I hope someone of you can help me.
I want her forever with me, I live in Belgium and she in Phuket, but how can we do ?
How long can she stay maximum ?
Is it difficult for her to come to see me in Belgium ?
Can I go live there ? and what do I have to do to stay there forever ?
Is it easy to get a job ? in Phuket ?
All information is welcome !
Is mariage easy ? what benefits do I have if I mary her ?
Is it different to mary her in Belgium or in Thailand ?
Great if someone can help me !!
Greetings and wait for your reply
Thanks

oh dear.she did her job well.
no seriously you sound like u fallen hook line and sinker.i cant help with belgium.i have a friend who married a bg.in uk it very hard to get them over here, specially if they are bargirls, they can come over for 2 weeks max or 6 month on sponsored visa, but they have to sign declaration that they wont marry some1,of course if its for marriage they can come over, but all the paperwork has to be done first, and bg dont get great service for getting over here.not worth the hassle, save some money and move over there, thats wot i would rather do.
and as for the benefits of marrying her???its the same as in any country, there are no benefits of marrying a women.it leads to hurt, hurt leads to anger and anger leads to the dark side.job wise wot are u?skilled in anything,i should imagine it very hard getting a job in phuket unless u strip, suck, fcuk or serve beers.

Hi I`m from Belgium and I`m married to a thai girl too. I don`t know what the papers are for now cause they change it every time just to make life more difficult. Anyway if you really serious about this and wan`t go on with this I can only suggest that you go to your cityhall ask for all the information. They have it all they just have to look in their books. And to make everything secure just call the thai emabassy in Brussels and ask for al the required papers you need. http://www.waw.be/rte-be/english/dao/eng_home.htm
Royal Thai Embassy
Mission of Thailand to the European Communities:
2 Square du Val de la Cambre, 1050 Brussels, Belgium
Tel. (32-2) 640.68.10, Fax. (32-2) 648.30.66
E-mail : thaibxl@pophost.eunet.be
They will help you whit everything you need to know.
Friendly regards Beuk.

Are u Crazy !!
Hi Eros,
How long have you known this girl ?? you want to marry already ?? just ask yourself one question , do you fall in love this quick back home ??
Have you got any idea what you are getting into marrying into a completely different culture ?? have you thought this through properly as most thai girls from my experience dont want to leave LOS at all to live in some cold country , after a while she may become bored very quickly with no thai friends or relatives to talk to , you need to think this through more

No thai friends gonna be difficult in Belgium cause there are manny thais living in Belgium. But like butterflyblonde says you have to be sure.
For me everything is alright at the moment and I hope it stays like this. But before we made that descision I went overthere two times a year and she stayd with me 2 times a year(summer and winter) We continued this for about 4 years. I had to be sure about it. She stayed everytime for about 3 months. Never be to quick to make such a life changing descision.

Hello,
I know her already 3 years, chat every week, send mails dayly and phone every 2-3 days, now it get more and more serious, talk with some friends of her to get information about her, talk with her family etc......
And if necesarry, I will go to live over there, I don't care money, live in Thailand is cheap.
I just ask everybody to give me some information, but not to judge about our relationship, I know what you all mean !!!, but our feelings are very hard.
Maybe later I will think about all what you write here, but that is the future and the future nobody knows, even with a Belgium girlfriend.
Thanks

Good luck 2 u
Nobody here is judging you and your relationship with her Eros , but there are many stories good and bad regarding western/thai relationships , my advice to you is search the web for information on this subject , i have seen many sites myself before which tell you good advice and all the ins and outs , wether it be positive or negative. We have all probably lost our heads over a thai girl , no just you , i myself have but my girl was a b/g so i know its different , just remember that for all you know she may be an ex b/g but wont tell you that , not that im saying she was of course , i wish you good luck with it but also say be careful with your choices .

Eros.
Coming to live in thailand can be very diffiicult, unless you have capital for business, which under new legislation is no small amount.
Marriage to a Thai gets you pretty much ZERO rights.
No right of abode, no right to work, the only thing I get is a one year visa renewable without leaving the Kingdom, but that also goes hand in hand with my Work Permit which is organised by a large multi national company with huge local clout. Doing it on your own if you even get the chance is a pain...right Nicke?
Your best bet is to take her home. She will get rights in Belgium. Getting visa's is no where near as hard as people make out, it's all about doing it properly, correct paperwork. Obviously I've never done any paperwork with your embassy, but mine is fine if you comply correctly with all their questions.
Proof of a 3 year relationship will go a long way, produce correspondance, phone bills, photo's. Proof of her employment will also go a long weay, ensure documentation of that is shown to the embassy.
Good Luck. If you have a good one you will never regret it.
Whether you have a good one is your call, make sure you are sure before you tread this path.

It was easier when I started 4 years ago, I guess.
But during the years it requires a lot more paperwork compared to my first year in Thailand. And July 10 this year there will be even more requirements, raise of minimum salaray, number of staff to have employed and so on.
Also you must make a profit in the company, they may refuse to renew your work permit if you are not making enough profit.
We will see what happen later this year regarding this. These requirements may not be a problem for larger companies but for a small self employed business it is becoming difficult.

Hi Eros
You can first invite your girl to come to Belgium for a sort of trial period of three months. My friend did this some time ago (also Belgium). But the Thai Embassy in Brussels can not make this happen. Your girl will have to go to the Belgean Embassy in BKK to maker it all happen.
But first you need to sent her some papers: go to the city hall in the city you live in and ask for a special document (which is a sort of proof that you have a house where you can stay, an adress). As well you need to sent her a recent copy of a pay check, as a proof you have an income. You also need to sent her a motivation letter in dutch or English. Make sure you sent original documents not copies because this could create problems and will slow up everything. The only copies you need to add are your id-card and a copy of her id-card passport. Also good thing is to add a picture of the both of you together. Do not sent it with normal post, but with express post. Go to the post-office and ask about the different ways you can sent it to her (because normal post takes very long to arrive in Phuket sometimes).
Your girl has to take all this documents to the Belgian Embassy in BKK and fill out a sort of request form. Also proof that you now her allready 3 years might help a lot (phone bills, e-mails, flight tickets....).
Then you will have to wait and see what happens. Also tell your girl that she makes sure she keeps the request-number with her and that she tells you. With this reference-number you can look up the status of the request on the www.fgov.be (hope this is the right website). Or you can allways call the Thai Embassy in Brussels for a status report (but I've been told if you call to much the will get fed up with you.)
Even if you think you are really sure about this girl, start with a trial period of three months first. Maybe she will get homesick or something like this, only future can tell.
My friends girlfriend (she has no kids) was here for three months (during summertime 2003), then she had to go back because the 3month visa expired and now since (middle december 2003) she's back in Belgium and she can stay for a period of 5years...after this 5years my friend has to decide about marriage or not. Until now it's going fine. But once again think about it and talk talk talk, with her, your friends and your family before you put a lot of energy in all this.
Please realize that saying goodbye after 3 months is much more difficult than saying goodbye after 2 weeks Patong.
Once again I just wanted to provide the info you asked for, but it's all up to you. To be honest i'am quite critical about all this, I mean I would never do it myself, but it's your decision and i do not know your girl.

Hi Eros,
in 1998 i married my thai girlfriend after staying one year with her together in thailand.
We lived in phuket and this time it was no problem to get a job. But the most bad payed.
So we decided to go to germany.
We still stay together and now we have a little girl age 20 month. My wife worked as a
bargirl before, but i don`t care. A lot of girls just do this to support their families and to come out of their hometowns. To have some adventure, to see something new... There are good and bad girls everywhere. So in Thailand. But especially in the tourist areas there are many girls want to marry a farang. They think that farangs have more money and they can out of their poorness. But of course some of this girls fall in love really. And if you want to marry your girlfriend. Just do it.
After the year in thailand we went to germany and living here until today. Its a "normal" relationship not much different from the ones i had with european woman before. We have a lot of thais in germany here, so my wife does not feel alone. Send your girlfriend / wife to a language school and she will meet other thais. This will help her. (learning the thai language will be good for your realtionship, too).
Ask your embassy and your cityhall how to manage the marriage with your girlfriend. Then ask her to get the papers and she can come to you and marry in belgium. If she has problems to get the papers, ask an agency to help her. Think this is not a big problem. For me it was quite easy.
After three years my wife got a visa "for ever" to stay in germany and all other "schengen"-countries. Work permitt she got after marriage immediately.
My daughter has a passport from thailand and one from germany, so she can stay in both countries as long as she wants.
I work in informatics, too, but think if you want to have a good salary, you have to work in bangkok. I know many farangs loose a lot of money in thailand running business there. I would never run a business in thailand, but up to you...
If you want to know more, be free to email me...
Good luck for you.
Chock di khap!

This is true, other than owing a tourist business there is No real money to be made in Phuket (before anyone points out that I do, I am in a totally unique situation and work out of Phuket as much as in it)

For me this is the best advice ever....I know it's been done and can be done, but I would not want it on my conscience to have advised someone to go this way.
Hopefully Nicke is an exception that proves the rule.
In addition this post is a good example that all Bar Girls need not be tarred with a certain brush, we all use the 'sick buffalo' ****ogies to relate stories about the girls, but this black and white stereotype is far far far from reality.
